  1. The bit about infield reps is interesting.
  2. Berrios but not by much. Kirk side has a bit more value. The 2nd part of your post is the key. That's the part that says Jay don't get Marquez unless they put an Orelvis type on the table.
  3. Problem is, given the relative scarcity of SP, at least half the teams in MLB would bid for Marquez services. I have a hard time seeing the Jays making the winning bid, after depleting the farm at the upper end to get Berrios.
  4. Retain Grichuk so Pearson doesn't need to be included, and give up Kirk, Hiraldo, Dasan Brown - something like that. Not enough, as some other team will give up more.....
  5. Never gonna go over to the dark side.
  6. Bat head has to cross the front of the plate. In this case I don't think the bat head even reached the plate, much less cross the front of it. One of the worst calls I have ever seen in 46 years of watching baseball.
  7. And the right thing to do is escalate the matter.
  8. That's not the only thing the hitter is trying to do, the hitter is also trying to get into a favourable count / get a good pitch to hit. Are you suggesting Flores, and not the umpire, f***ed up?
  9. i swear the umpiring is killing the game, the San Fran fans and media are going to be batshit crazy
  10. wasn't even close actually.....
  11. oh he didn't go what a bad call
  12. the cleats just clearing Beatty head
  13. Nice to see Belly finally healthy
  14. lot of dumb sad yankee fans when jeter retired
  15. Marge Schott
  16. Pete Rose retired at the right time. Teams played him past his prime because the fans wanted to see him play.
  17. The other big one that might be on the negotiating table is getting rid of IFA system and putting those players in the draft. Would make for a hell of an interesting draft.
  18. ya, i thought it was more pronounced with 2 strikes though
  19. Bichette was certainly prone to chasing pitches out of the zone with 2 strikes. The good news is this is an aspect that gets better with experience.
  20. It's going to be very difficult. The negotiations are not just with the players but with all 30 teams with quite variable revenue streams. And I don't have a lot of confidence in the MLB commish to lead this thing through. Universal DH is a big change that is expected. Not a whole lot else game wise I expect, all other negotiations will relate to how the revenue pie gets shared, salary floors, luxury tax, etc etc
  21. Are you really equating Stroman with Bauer, or is this a joke?
  22. Prospect list is not the same, otherwise the highest rated prospect for each team would be the default minor leaguer of the year. Think of it as the MVP award, which doesn't always go to the most talented player in MLB.
  23. The Jays have leverage, being that if Berrios doesn't sign and gets hurt in 2022 season, his value gets f***ed. Will be for something more than 5/100, but both sides will assess the risks and hopefully come to a reasonable agreement that would be somewhat less than what a healthy Berrios would get in free agency a year from now.
  24. BA pick for Jays MiLB player of the year: Shortstop Orelvis Martinez was more than holding his own a couple of months into 2021, batting .256/.337/.450 through 44 games with Low-A Dunedin. Yet the 19-year-old wasn't really having it. “Some of his early season struggles weren’t really him struggling, but more him not meeting his own lofty expectations,” Blue Jays farm director Gil Kim said. “The Dunedin staff (led by manager Luis Hurtado) actually sat down with him and reinforced how well he was actually doing, and pretty soon thereafter was that few weeks stretch where he was the hottest hitter on the planet.” That stretch was basically July, when Martinez hit .320 with 13 home runs and nine doubles in 27 games. After a 2-for-4 day on Aug. 1, he was promoted to High-A Vancouver. He struggled there but hit 28 homers on the season while batting .261/.345/.549 in 98 games. “Orelvis learning how to navigate a little bit of struggle was really important this year,” Kim said. “Early on in Dunedin, and then a little bit late in Vancouver, are probably the first few times that he wasn’t the best hitter on the field. "And the way he was able to focus on what he needed to do to get better—and to work his tail off to do that—was awesome. That’s probably the most important thing.” The 6-foot-1, 188-pound Dominican shortstop may eventually outgrow the position—he worked on his footwork and direction of his throwing this year—but his bat will play at third base. It is that offensive upside that made him a popular target for other clubs at the trade deadline. “How hard Orelvis impacts the ball and his ability to consistently find the barrel in A-ball, we don't want to put challenging comparisons on him, but it reminds us of the wow factor that we had watching guys like Vladdy and Bo,” Kim said, referring to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette. “A lot depends on how he handles the next steps and how much he continues to work. Like Vlad and Bo, he desires to get better and puts the work in.” — Double-A New Hampshire catcher Gabriel Moreno might have been the organization's Minor League Player of the Year had a thumb injury not truncated his season.
  25. Jays need to extend Berrios this offseason as priority #1. If we use Ryu as a comparable (as of the Ryu signing), that's 5/100, minimum. Which deducts $14M from the avail salary room. Jays would be smart to extend at least one and preferably both of Vlad and Bo long term, which would deduct a further hefty amount. All this shows is the importance of having a full pipeline of prospects, which the Rays success demonstrates anyway.
