    And you can cross your fingers that a lot of the defensive gains stick, because he'd be in RF again this year with Pillar in CF. I don't think Chicago would move him for an MLB SP given that they'd be subtracting from a weak area and adding to a strength, and Eaton is objectively more valuable, but he's pretty much a perfect fit for this team, both offensively and defensively.

    Wait, why aren't we on board with an Eaton/Stroman swap? Eaton has five more years of cheap team control and has been worth more than 12 fWAR over the last 3 years, including a 6-win 2016. Stroman only has 4 years of remaining control, and he's a pitcher, so his arm is probably going explode anyway. I think trading him for Eaton would be a no-brainer, especially given the hole in RF. If you can shift a long term investment in a pitcher to a long term investment in a hitter, who has outperformed that pitcher, and is controllable for longer, and plays a position of need, I don't see how you turn that down.

    Morales is almost certainly a better defender at 1B than Beltran in the OF. He might not even be below average.

    I'd love to see that. Oakland making a move designed to help them win baseball games in an upcoming season is pretty rare.

    I'm not sure why you're arguing with GD. His Steamer wRC+ projection went from 109 to 112 after the signing.

    An OF of Pillar-Pompey-Upton-Carrera has a chance to be the worst outfield in baseball. Possible sub-80 wRC+ as a unit.

    Well, you were wrong. Typically a spot starter is asked to start one game and go back to the pen. That isn't what I had in mind when I referenced the Rays' use of Andriese this year and Ramirez last year. They used those guys as key parts of the pen, and were 100% willing to shift them to a full-time rotation spot if the situation called for it. We saw it with Mike Montgomery too, and it's a bit of a different approach to handling good pen arms. As for your comment about the forum, you've spent the better part of the last 5 years complaining that people are rude when you post stupid things. Here's a tip: nobody values your posts, so you can leave for the facebook or reddit fan pages and not feel bad.

    I like the idea of using Biagini like the Rays have used Ramirez and Andriese. If everyone is healthy he's in the pen. If someone goes down he's the first guy inserted into the rotation. He looks like he might have 3-4 usable pitches, we'll see if the stuff and velo holds up over 5-6 innings.

    I'd like him for 1B if he comes for lie 3/40 or something. But I think he gets a fair bit more than that.

    I want to know what it is they see in Bruce. To have persistent interest for the better part of a year, they have to believe that he's at least a 110 wRC+ bat, and also not buy him as a -10 defender.

    He's always had a short leash under Gibby. Remember when he was pulled out of the closet spot one appearance into 2015 so Miguel Castro could gas can a bunch of games?

    If they're going to pay Cecil 6-7M a year, it would be nice if Gibby uses him appropriately. In terms of terms of game leverage when he enters: 2016 = 5th behind Osuna, Floyd, Benoit, and Grilli 2015 = 4th behind Osuna, Castro, and Lowe 2014 = 6th behind McGowan, Loup, Sanchez, Janssen, Wagner Cecil is pretty inarguably a top-30 reliever in the game, and he should be used to put out fires.
