He definitely knows what he is talking about. The only real issue I can see is that the general masses of fans may not take to that style. Seems like people prefer homer style commentators. It's more appealing to the hardcore fans I think.
I really think Buehrle is going to do well tonight. That Rays lineup does not instill any fear whatsoever. Hopefully Buehrle can give us one of his Buehrle like starts tonight and give this team a chance to get some wins under their belt.
From everything I have heard about Thole and the few times I have seen him catch, he should be a nice upgrade defensively over JPA overall. Plus he gets on base at a decent clip. Something this team dearly needs. We have enough power in the lineup, we need guys on base.
I am fairly confident that the SP will start rumbling privately for Blanco or Thole over the next little while if they haven't already. There is only so many times JPA can make critical errors before they get fed up and realize he is not the man for the job.
Stubbornness? I don't know, it really boggles the mind. The excuses I keep hearing are that Thole needs to get regular reps to keep him fresh in case something happens to JPA. I have a hard time believing that Thole couldn't backup JPA right now and step in to take over the role if needed.
At this point it should be a 50/50 split between Thole and JPA and then evaluate the better option from there.
Love the fact that Gibby is mixing things up going with Blanco. Would prefer it to be Thole, but at least it shows signs that Gibby understands their are fundamental issues with JPA.
It's a shame to see Halladay deteriorate so quickly, but it was inevitable. That is why I am never a fan of acquiring older SP unless its on a cheap contract via FA.
I don't think they need to have any type of long winning streak right now. Obviously it would be great but it isn't the only way. Winning 2, losing 1, winning 3 losing 1, etc, etc, and this team will get back on track in no time.
Well AA does love his vets and I doubt Lawrie can give a speech like Derosa that has already paid dividends with out 1 game win streak. The results speak for themselves.
That's about all I would trust him with at this point. If he can show improved control then maybe he gets a shot at the rotation. With Hutch on the comeback trail as well, he is certainly ahead of Drabek on the depth charts.
I kind of like Hayhurst. He doesn't seem afraid to speak his mind at times and that is quite refreshing. It might be a bit much for the masses though. Something I I really liked about Ashby as well.
Well if he can come back by mid June that would be huge, might be wishful thinking though. But at the very least it would be nice to see him in the lineup after the all star break.
Ovcourse they can build on it, but they have to do it right now. We are about 1/5 of the way through the season. The real test will be to get to .500 my the midway point of the season. If they can do that then a wild card is certainly attainable.
