    Is Smoak better than Edwin at 1B? Serious question, I have no idea. Both Edwin and Lind were bad defensively. Could Smoak inherit the 1B job? Equally important, will he hit better outside of Seattle or is he really a bust of a hitter? Edit: Forget it. Smoak seems to be a below average hitter AND defender at 1B according to Fangraphs. Why did we get him again?

    My comment was not directly analogous to the Donaldson trade. I mentioned it in response to the notion that multiple prospects are generally required to get a top player because most prospects don't make it.

    I'm afraid this is likely true It didn't help that we essentially had 3 players this year who only should have played at DH (Lind, EE, Francisco). It was hhard for Gibby to get the most out of those guys when they all suck on defense.

    It's probably been said elsewhere, but over the last two years (his first two full MLB seasons) Donaldson has been worth more WAR than every player in baseball other than Mike Trout, Andrew McCutchen and Clayton Kershaw.

    Jeez, for some reason I thought Donaldson was on a semi-hefty contract, but he's still dirt cheap and controllable for years. There's nothing not to love about this. Except my $250 Lawrie jersey is garbage now. Does anyone re-do jerseys?? I just need the characters T S R M O N 6 A and I'll figure out something to make out of it.

    AA has now acquired two near MVP caliber, yet somehow still undervalued players in Martin and Donaldson These seem like exactly the sorts of moves once considered Beane-esque Beane has lost his way And I love what AA has done this off season (so far)
