    All good points and questions Edwin seems just as good at 1B as Smoak so no loss there, and playing 1B hasn't seemed to affect him health wise as you say A few games vs LHP to keep Upton in the mix more would be helpful I agree. As it is he's just a pinch runner mostly. Gibby still uses Carrera for late defensive replacement too and not Upton...

    I'd love to have Bautista back on a 1 year deal for 2017 Qualify him, let him test the market and realize no one is giving even 3-4 years now Sign him back for 1M less than his QO (LOL kidding, sort of) Give Edwin 3 years Roll the dice next year. Trade one or both at the deadline if it's not working out

    Liriano salary = Dickey salary It's a wash for next year's payroll

    Shapiro and Atkins somehow improved both the MLB roster and the farm at the same time (both modestly perhaps but still...) Very impressive indeed The only net cost was taking on payroll but so be it. They had room there it seems and ownership was obviously willing to pony up for another playoff run.

    Also I'm quite surprised that Dombrowski thought either: The Red Sox are good enough as is Or He would not agree to some of these prices for pitching. If THIS is the case he's crazy because mid rotation starters were being traded for modest returns. Elite late inning RP seemed to carry the highest premium.
