    Agree totally except that I don't see him as the face anymore I just think I can now live with letting him go if it's the smart baseball decision. If they can work.out a reasonable short term deal with him, then that's OK too. I'd like to see him retire as a Jay too, but not if the price for that is 3-5 overpaid mediocre years.

    Well that's who I see him as now. It's hard to pinpoint exactly when that shift happened. And it migjt be different for different fans. And your best player isn't always the face of the franchise though usually is. And Donaldson has been our best player easily. Donaldson Tulo, Pillar, Martin, Sanchez, Stroman, Osuna Lots of other guys who fans love now. Not like it used to be. I don't think letting Bautista go would the PR blow anymore that it would have been say in 2013 or 2014.

    Honest question: How many fans (hardcore vs casual) still see Jose Bautista as the face of the franchis? I probably did until about 1/3 of the way through this season. Even if he has a good September I still just don't quite see him that way anymore.

    He's a perennial 2-3 WAR player having a slightly.off year and got traded He bats left vs Upton Jr who hits right He won't be attached to draft pick compensation He's only 29 He is a positive defender He's a good fit but won't come cheap. Reasonable maybe but not cheap. He can command 4-5 years in this market.

    Draft pick for Bautista leaving Sign Reddick (who won't cost a draft pick) Extend Encarnacion That would be awesome.

    We know he is still capable of pitching like a legit front of the rotation starter.

    Yeah we have good Stroman's back it looks like Occasional rocky starts but not very often Great to have him doing well again. That's huge for the team. We can manage with 4 quality starters.

    Since he's from Southern Ontario he has been asked about it occasionally over the years. The possibility of playing for the Jays.     Yeah. There will be guys as good as Smoak released during Spring Training and available on minor league contracts. It's not a ton of money but I also don't get it. I guess it's just so they know they have SOMEONE in the spot
