Cleveland is covering $3.75MM of the money that is still owed to Straw. Per Zack Meisel of The Athletic, that will be $1MM in both 2025 and 2026, followed by $1.75MM after that.

From MLBTR: The Jays started with a pool of $6,261,600. The Dodgers had their pool dropped by $1MM for signing Shohei Ohtani, since he rejected a qualifying offer and they were a competitive balance tax payor in 2023, winding up at $5,146,200. Since the Jays are allowed to increase their pool by 60%, they can theoretically get that number as high as $10,018,560. This deal gets them up to $8,261,600.

Been thinking about this but haven't asked for an opinion. If you **do** sign Sasaki do you then try and trade Bassitt to bring payroll down and get something else you need in the process?

This would be the biggest steal imaginable because he doesn't even cost any significant money. And you could maybe even trade another starter to free salary to add a bat. JFC I refuse to get too excited but wow it would be huge.

IDK. It's all up to him. He just decided he didn't want to go to the Rangers, Yankees or Mets. Wants more time to pick between the 3 he's still considering.

At age 23, Sasaki is subject to international bonus pool money restrictions, as he’s under 25 and has less than six seasons of service time in a foreign league recognized by MLB. So we won’t be seeing a Yamamoto type of deal here (12 years, $325 million). This is similar to when Ohtani came here in 2017, when he received a bonus of $2.3 million from the Angels. When is he eligible to sign with an MLB team? All 30 MLB clubs have 45 days to negotiate with a player after he is posted. If no agreement is reached in that timeframe, the player returns to his NPB club for the coming season. He cannot be posted again until the following offseason.
