  1. It was interesting that they mentioned that they plan to throw a lot more off-speed pitches this year, and it's a point of emphasis this spring. Also said Morrow is 30 pounds heavier this year than at this point last year, and it sounds like it isn't fat that he added. Walker really speaks glowingly about Hutch and Stroman. I get the impression that they would get the #4 and #5 slots if he had his way, but AA wants to go with Happ + one of them.

Canucks are taking 15% of Luongo's remaining contract (800k / year cap hit)

I really like that trade for the Canucks, especially if Florida is on the hook for the entire Luongo contract. Even better, I now have 3 starting goalies in WTP (assuming Lack is the #1 at least for the rest of this year). I might not like Luongo and Halak's numbers going forward though lol. I have to think the Canucks are doing a full rebuild. With all the injuries they've had this year and what they should be able to fetch for guys like Kesler, it's the perfect time to do it.
  4. Yup. No risk, but lots of potential reward.
  5. It doesn't matter how it's released. If MLB didn't want people to be able to access the XML files, they would have closed off that ability.
  6. I expect him to be in the 75-80 wRC+ this year assuming reasonable playing time. We'll see.
  7. JFaS, we should add the same to BBDL rules.
  8. Those are available on the one baseball stats website whose existence you seem determined to excise from your memory.
  9. All the defensive metrics suffer from lack of data, which this should mostly resolve. I'm not sure that finding out which of the previous metrics was best really matters, because this data set will cause new ones to be created that take factors into account the previous ones couldn't.
  10. There were still quite a few people bitching about every tiny thing even during that streak. Some people just seem to get off on complaining. I've also noticed that post quality goes waaaaay down late at night on weekends, so alcohol seems to have an effect too.
  11. and a "new" person signs up in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...
  12. Neither had any hope of making the roster, and there's only so much coaching time etc. Regardless, we'll probably see at least Ohka with the odd appearance on road games this spring.
  13. Could you imagine that?
  14. Man if Jeffress could ever learn to throw strikes ...
  15. He probably mentioned at some point that he enjoys DHing a little more or something, and some reporter decided to try to turn it into a story. He and Lind make a pretty good 1B/DH combo anyway, since Lind's back doesn't seem to be able to hold up to 1B every day.
  16. I think it'll be interesting to see if Melky plays any CF this spring. If he does (and is usable for a handful of games a year there), then I could see Gose starting in AAA. If not, then Gose almost has to make the club. If he and Sierra both do, then we pretty much have to have a 5 man bench since it would be very questionable to only have one infielder (although I suppose Bautista or Edwin could shift to 3rd in an emergency with Lawrie shifting to SS or 2nd).
  17. It won't be anywhere near that high in terms of usable data. Think about what we already get from PitchFX and add a few multiples and we probably get roughly the analytical dataset this will produce.
  18. Apparently some concern about CC Sabathia's velocity this spring (although it's too early for them to be really worried). He's topping out at 88mph. Gotta love his response:
  19. In case others didn't click on the article, apparently it'll only launch for Brewers, Twins, and Mets home games, then roll out to other clubs as the season progresses. All clubs should have it by the start of next year.
  20. Gameday has some of the clips up, including the Gose single.
  21. Sure you would... Romero's career earnings to date are only 14M, like hell he or anyone else would throw away 15M over the next 2 years to save some humiliation. It's not like he's an aged superstar sitting on 100M and trying to protect his image.
