  1. I'd like to know what the new metrics say about it. Fangraphs, etc don't use them to my knowledge, and the flaws in their approach should be well known by now. BsR has the same flaws. Certainly we should expect some decline in the legs though, and he doesn't have the bat to make up for it.
  2. Neither of those relievers have quite the same profile (bigger questions about both, either in terms of command or whether they could handle closing), but would I trade a Guerrero or Bo for Osuna in Washington's position? Yes. I wouldn't be happy about it mind you.
  3. Actually, one number that jumps out is the vertical movement on sliders. Over the last 5 years, it was 1.0, 1.0, 1.1, 1.3, 1.5. Most other pitches don't seem to really be affected. Velocity on the slider has ticked up slightly over that time, but I'm not sure it's enough to account for the difference. Interestingly, this coincides with a big drop in Tulo's ability to hit the slider.
  4. I wonder if the changes to the ball is also increasing pitcher velocity?
  5. There's a number of studies that the ball used in 2016 and 2017 is a lot different that before that, but maybe not a big difference between this year and last year.
  6. I'm not sure he's wrong. If anyone can tell a difference in the balls, it's going to be a pitcher. Now whether that's causing the blisters or not, who knows. Speaking out and bringing recognition to it will certainly get people looking into it. It's not like he's attacking someone specifically.
  7. Jose Reyes is clearly the correct answer for the Mets. Kidding, Syndergaard all day long.
  8. For whatever it's worth, Osuna has basically been equal to Miller this year, and may still have more upside than what he's already shown. Miller had what, 2.5 years of control for ~23M? I'm not sure what Osuna makes in his final arbitration year, but it's probably not too different for 3.5 years of control. Plus, Washington doesn't need to add payroll this year to get him, which may allow them to add someone else at the deadline as well. Frazier was in AAA when he was traded (although just promoted), which makes him a little less risky, and Sheffield was a top 100 prospect as well. As good a prospect as Robles is, he is in A+, and probably only has average power potential, although that might play up a bit due to great hand eye. I can certainly understand why the Nats wouldn't want to do the trade, but my point was that I think it's a reasonable and fair one to make, for both teams considering where they are and what their needs are.
  9. I don't really see anything in Tulo's stats to indicate he won't turn it around. One of the things that jump out at me is the slider. He's always been a pretty good slider hitter, and this year (SSS mind you), he's been awful. He's not pulling the ball as much either, which is probably causing the drop in his hard hit %.
  10. I think you'd find very few people share that view. Both are very good prospects though.
  11. Robles for Osuna would probably be a good move for both teams. Happ to the Brewers for Corey Ray would be a nice fit too.
  12. Which front offices probably won't care at all about, unless there's a physical problem that changes his projection.
  13. Pretty sure it would be us that would have to sweeten.
  14. There had to have been a few teams interested in him. We're probably paying half of his remaining contract this year, or something like that. That probably lays to rest any speculation about whether we're looking to sell right now or not, although ultimately I guess he'd be easy to move at the deadline regardless.
  15. I really like the idea of dealing Osuna. Teams would control him for another 3.5 years, and he's demonstrated he's in one of the top tiers of closers (step behind a Kimbrel / Chapman class). Given his age, team control, and salary, he should bring in two blue chip prospects on the MLB bubble at the very least imo. I'll take a high end position player prospect over a guy who only pitches one inning with a lead any day.
  16. Supposedly there's incentives as well, which I assume could take it up to a max deal.
  17. Apparently the Raps offered Tucker 3/32, but he accepted 4/32 from Houston instead.
  18. How many of the Red Sox hits today have been opposite field? If you see guys with that approach, stop pitching them away.
  19. If you're bunting and stealing in a blowout, then it's a problem. In a closer game, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. The Red Sox are and should be doing everything they can to win the game, and unfortunately we're not adapting to it.
  20. We have some decent youth in the rotation, and probably enough young players coming up in the next few years that a full rebuild likely isn't necessary. We have the budget to fill in the holes with free agency.
  21. The good thing is, we're only 4.5 out of the second wildcard (and 7.5 back in the division if we win today). That's is definitely recoverable. As poorly as we've played, we certainly aren't alone. The bad thing is, we look like s*** right now. We deserve to be losing these games.
  22. Guess it can't hurt. He seems like basically a slap hitter who doesn't run much though.
  23. Nope, didn't bother. Looked at it, but can't remember why I passed.
  24. That was a nice streak though.
  25. A pitching change? Seriously? It's 7-0, save the f***ing pen and let Harrell get the final out.
