  1. as soon as I take the lead I'll start a thread about it on the off topic board.
  2. Still a terrible QP ratio. 100.27 to 1 post to thanks ratio leaves him in the bottom half of the Quality Post category.
  3. I actually thought you were a female poster and it was meant as a sexist comment. No real offense meant, goes back to an old poster named MetalJay
  4. Indians (Kluber over Scherezer) and Jays in a 5 inning parlay paying 8.27-1. $72.70 in profit on lockdown.
  5. Or since you have these links...you could just look them up yourself.
  6. Carreno looked awful yesterday. His slider used to be an out pitch yesterday not one hitter missed it. wouldn't surprise me to hear a DL trip for him. Why would Pillar get pushed past Gose? Why does no one mention Goins?
  7. hard to tell off of one game but he took Cueto`s breaking stuff and waited on a FB. he turned nicely on it just line out to RF. While I understand why management would tell him that they expect a 230 lbs. guy who can`t defend to develop more power but since these changes he`s suddenly a .230 hitter rather than the .300 guy he was looking like he could be...especially since there is no evident power increase.
  8. Boni was 1.1 WAR in 200 PA's in 2010. 0.4 in 274 PA's in 2012. He's been above replacement level in the past three seasons. I don't believe in Boni at all but I don't believe that Negrych would put up positive WAR seasons for three straight if put into the scenario.
  9. that depends on Jimenez's health though.
  10. Lansing vs. Dayton Thursday game notes Pompey - is an all hands guy, Too loopy of a swing to be successful Smith Jr. - Makes Lawrie look like a statue out there. Way too much prep movement for my liking. When he does swing it's a nice level swing, his swing doesn't match the stats to date in my mind. I don't see him being a super low line drive guy. His leg kick isn't quite as prolific as I heard so I'm guessing he's cut it down. I can see him developing a bit more power but not enough to make him a corner OF threat. So he has to be a CF (can't speak for the defense specifically as I didn't see him make a play) or a 4th OF, not sure what happened to the experiment of him trying 2B but I'd like him a lot more if he added more positions. Appears to be a very smart ball player too. Lopes - I look at him in the batter's box and he just looks like a major league star. He's a f***ing statue in there and focused. Swings down a little bit but it might have to do more with situation as Smith was on base in scoring position for his early AB's. He obviously doesn't take quite enough pitches which is surprising for a guy with his AB approach. Didn't get to see the defense at all, but if it can be even close to good (which it is said to be) he'll be a major league 2B someday...very Brandon Phillips light all around. Hawkins - Announcers had a nice conversation about Hawkins talking about what a different hitter Hawkins is this year and they asked about the change, Hawkins told them that management has told him that he's a corner OF (which he doesn't poorly) or DH and he's going to have to develop more power to match his size if he's going to make it. He has not been effective since the change. He looks good in the box, he just swings hard at everything. He doesn't miss the ball all that much, I think he must need more bottom half. Best case scenario is that he becomes a Garrett Jones type. Avendano - most disappointing guy I saw. The few times they mentioned his FB it was 91 or 92. He threw every single FB up in the zone. At one point he threw 6 straight curveballs and it looks good. Can't say I saw a change up. He didn't fool many guys and for a guy that's about biting the corners I didn't see him hit a bat. Cueto - Steady diet of curveballs for the most part. When he did throw the FB it was up around 94. He'll be fine Guillon - Major league stuff for sure. I can see why he's on the Reds 40 man still. He just can't control his stuff. Completely impressed though, will be interesting to see if he can get the control around a little. He'll make a great reliever if he can. Jesse Winker - Most impressive guy on the field. Queue him into every watch list, he's going to be a top 50 prospect shortly...and that might be underrating him.
  11. one of the things I forgot to mention about the Trenton team...they have a dog as a bat boy. he comes out and picks up bats and brings them back to the dugout.
  12. Kozma is younger, performing better and available for a very small pick upgrade. If you pick one pick ahead of me I'll give him to you.
  13. Twitter follower? I hear the guy behind the account is brilliant
  14. but is Negrych the guy that you dump him for? 2011 Bonifacio had a major league season better than any minor league season other than this one that Negrych has had. He batted .380/.466/.450 in July that year. You don't make a reactionary move for a guy that should be a bench player on your team, even if the guy he's replacing is below bench level. Even in 2012 he had a .370 OBP when batting from the left side. I noted that 9 of his 63 hits were bunts last year...why hasn't he attempted a bunt for a hit yet? You can't bring in a guy and take away his most successful weapon.
  15. Resumed Protested Games Most protests of games are not upheld. There are many reasons for this, with the most frequent two being: 1. The protest had an incorrect basis, such as a disagreement with an umpire's judgment, which cannot be protested. 2. The team lodging the protest won the game, so it was never formally filed. There have been some games when the protest has been upheld, even when the umpires correctly enforced the rules. Perhaps the most famous case is the George Brett pine tar bat homer on 7/24/83. In that case, the umpires were following the existing rules to the letter when Brett's homer was negated and he was called out. However, AL President Lee MacPhail ruled that the penalty was not within the "spirit of the rules" and reversed the call. Brett was awarded the home run and the game was resumed from that point (with some interesting substitutions by Yankee manager Billy Martin). When a protest is upheld, the game is supposed to be played from the point of the protested play as corrected. However, there have also been times when the protest has been upheld, but the game has not been resumed. One infamous example was the Cardinals at Dodgers game on 7/20/47 where both teams batted in the ninth, but neither made three outs! There is a brief description after the list of resumed protested games. Jim Smith has provided a number of protested games that were picked up from the point of protest at a later date, and we have received others from helpful visitors to our web site. The list likely is not complete. Please let us know if you can add to it. The more recent ones have links to their boxscores and play-by-play descriptions. Latest additions and changes: (on 6/2/2010): 8/30/1913 Giants at Phillies restored due to research showing game was resumed (on 12/28/2008): 6/5/1943, 6/12/1943, details for some other games (on 3/25/2008): 8/30/1913 Giants at Phillies removed; protest was upheld, but game was never resumed (on 2/14/2007): 8/21/1979 (on 10/16/2005): 8/1/1971 (on 10/11/2005): 5/15/1975 (on 12/17/2005): 8/17/1947 NL NY at Phi 30 Aug 1913 (game finished 2 Oct in New York) Details NL Phi at NY 5 Jul 1920 (2nd) (game finished 4 Sep) Details NL Cin at Pit 28 May 1921 (game finished 30 Jun) Details NL StL at Chi 2 Jul 1934 (game finished 31 Jul) Details NL Phi at StL 5 Jun 1943 (game finished 29 Jul) Details NL Phi at NY 13 Jun 1943 (game finished 6 Aug) Details NL Bro at Phi 17 Aug 1947 (2nd) (game finished 25 Sep) Details NL Bro at Pit 25 Aug 1948 (game finished 21 Sep) NL Cin at Mil 22 Sep 1954 (game finished 24 Sep) NL StL at Phi 1 Aug 1971 (game finished 7 Sep) NL Atl at Mon 15 May 1975 (game finished 20 Jul) NL Hou at NY 21 Aug 1979 (game finished 22 Aug) AL KC at NY 24 Jul 1983 (game finished 18 Aug) NL StL at Pit 16 Jun 1986 (game finished 18 Jun) July 20, 1947, St. Louis at Brooklyn: In the top of the ninth with the Cards ahead 2-0, Ron Northey hits a high fly deep to the wall in right center. The Dodgers CF Pete Reiser leaps but can't catch it, and after a couple of seconds the ball drops back on the field where RF Dixie Walker fields it, relays it to 2B Eddie Stanky, whose throw nails Northey at home. The first base umpire (there was a three man crew in those days) immediately ruled the ball in play, but the other base umpire signaled to Northey that it was a homer, so Northey slowed up. He was ruled out at the plate, and the Cards protested the game saying Northey had been deceived by the umpire and would have scored if he had not slowed down. In the bottom of the ninth, the Dodgers scored three runs to win the game before the protest by a 3-2 score. NL President Ford Frick, who later became Commissioner, upheld the protest and awarded Northey a home run. However, he did not order the game resumed in the top of the ninth with the Cards ahead 3-0, which would have been the normal procedure called for by the rules. He allowed the Dodgers' runs to stand and ruled the game a 3-3 tie. (We can only speculate on what he would have decided if the Dodgers had hit a homer in the bottom of the ninth and scored four runs.) All the records counted except for the pitchers' win and loss. The game was replayed in its entirety as part of a doubleheader on August 18 that the Dodgers won. Retrosheet's Dave Smith wrote an article about this game, which has more details, in the Society for American Baseball Research publication The Baseball Research Journal, Number 33, (2004).
  16. That is correct but what do you do when he comes back? Negrych isn't clearing waivers. He is a major league 25th man. The issue isn't as much with Negrych himself it's that he doesn't fit with this team as we already have two 25th men.
  17. In a way he's not wrong Negrych is locked in right now and the line drive rate is at 20.7 same as it was for 324 PA's in Syracuse last year. However given long term at the MLB level he's going to be replacement level at best, he's got a great eye and doesn't miss many balls but he's also below average on the basepaths, below average defensively. He would make a good 25th man, injury replacement guy. That's it. Bonifacio is useless (can't say I didn't warn you) however he has proven at this level that he too can go on a run much more valuable than what Negrych would do. If they had an ability to get something of value out of Boni, I'd say go right ahead, deal him and go with Negrych for a short term spark but it's a move to please the casuals again, not a good baseball move.
  18. Zero need, clearly still working on things. MLB players probably won't swing at nearly as much of his stuff, which means he has to hit those corners. He's not on the 40 man yet and unlike Ortiz if he pitches badly you probably don't want to just dump him for the next guy...and if you DFA Deck he's not clearing waivers.
  19. potentially replaying part of the game. Changing the result. I think there have only been 5 protested games upheld in history. The above mentioned rain delay, the pine tar incident and Jeff Leonard's odd at bat are three that I remember. The Leonard one they had to replay the 9th inning the next day
