The Women's Champions League Final is on. Lyon is about to win their 4th straight title over Barca this time (they went up 4-0 in the first 30 minutes). It is a neutral site (Budapest) and there are 22,000 fans there. The average salaries on the two teams are 166,000 euros for Lyon and 100,000 for Barcelona. It's similar for basketball in Europe too.
I was part of a Professional Women's hockey panel recently and the ideas are just insanely repeated. The Euro model can't work for women's sports in North America (sports just aren't branded the same way. example we have Toronto Maple Leafs & Toronto Raptors whereas in Europe all the soccer, hockey and basketball clubs work under the same brand with an incredible amount of saved administrative and marketing costs. Plus Europe's set up works so much better for a domestic to National to continental formula). I just think a single sport hybrid could somewhat work, at least for hockey.
Anyway it was a better played game than most Women's World Cup games. I honestly don't mind watching women's sports at most levels and I think it can work in North America
