Yeah it's hard to phrase what I'm saying. Obviously it's good that they're quitting. It just gets me that everyone in baseball is saying Gwynn's death should be a turning point for chewing tobacco use, since Gwynn's cancer hasn't been tied to chewing tobacco. The long-known negative effects of chewing tobacco should have convinced players to stop long ago. But if his death is used as a such a turning point, then that's a great thing and is what Gwynn would have wanted.

As I posted in the GDT, Stroman is getting whiffs, avoiding walks and getting ground balls. He can be a TOR starter if he keeps that up. And nothing I've seen suggests he can't. It's not like he had clearly inferior stuff either. Sits 94-95 with a wipeout breaking ball. -
To be honest TL, I had no idea what anything in that thread was about lol. It gave me a headache.

I picked Stroman -
I don't know what to think of Myers to be honest. There's a wide range of things he could turn into. If he settles into a .270/.340/.450 line with ~23 bombs (Jay Bruce with more average, less power), then he's not a special type of asset. That's a very possible scenario IMO. But he does have big tools and could be a real impact bat. Profar I don't love, but he could be an above-average middle infielder for a decade. There's value in that. I'd probably take the Posey side.

And he was on five days rest! Stroman doesn't have a limit. The Strasburg thing isn't the norm, that's why the Nats got so much heck. If you make the playoffs and have a young pitcher in your rotation, you bite the bullet and keep using him. AA has even said he doesn't have a limit. And being on a pitch count will prevent him from exceeding 175 regular season innings anyway.

For you people referencing pitch count, remember that Stroman is on five days rest because of Dickey. And they were very cautious with him in previous starts.

Oh c'mon! Rasmussen would be a good choice though. If you mean the broadcasters, then yes I like them in general. It's just funny to hear about other teams having offensive struggles.

Yeah I don't know why I said 'both' lol. He can manipulate the speed and break of his breaking ball and gets whiffs no matter the amount of each. Changeup seems to be more of a show-me pitch at the moment, but that doesn't mean it's not quality (just doesn't need to use it often).

The lack of plane on his fastball is supposed to most affect his ability to get ground balls (and avoid home runs), isn't it? That hasn't been a problem at all.

Stroman seemed to get a fair amount of swinging strikes too, including a bunch of chases. He's been very good peripheral-wise all season. He gets swinging strikes on both pitches, has good control of three pitches, gets ground balls... he's doing everything to quiet the "he can't start" doubters.
