  1. There are always many options on the market who can give you a league-average line or better wRC+ on the cheap. Justin Morneau posted a 102 this year, and 108 last year. He'll take a one-year deal at a <6 million. Why not just sign Morneau, instead of praying for a miracle with Arencibia, who has 1400 PA of 76 wRC+ production and has actually gotten worse with each season.
  2. You did make good points, I'm just saying you could have found some other thread to post in. Four of your threads are in the most recent 20.. that's too many! Any team can overcome any amount of hitting/pitching failure as long as they post a good run differential. As Peter Brand said, "In order to buy wins, you need to buy runs." Net runs, that's the name of the game. AA puts his faith in 1880s-era adages, and in worshipping them is blowing tens of millions of dollars.
  3. Yep. AA seems to believe (like some WAR haters on this forum do) that hitting, pitching and defense make up a constant percentage of production (perhaps 40%, 50%, 10%), and not that baseball is a game of run differential. He thinks that the team has filled its offensive quota, so now must focus only on pitching.
  4. FWIW, he was apparently on this forum on Saturday: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?p=71693241. It seems he has shifted his interest to hockey due to non-contention, and should be back.
  5. It will be in late February (after Yahoo opens). It'll be a 12-hour window draft like we've done the MiLB drafts so may take a few weeks. Not sure what that means for your situation, I guess you could post the range.
  6. I considered third place to be an accomplishment (congrats NJH) and I suppose fourth too. But not 5-8. Tying in the draft picks makes sense though, I'd get behind that.
  7. Just sent a couple PMs on proboards!
  8. It might not be over after all: do the Rangers/Rays Game 163 stats count? I can't find the answer anywhere.
  9. I think FTD will win regardless of what Pence does. Realmin already has OBP down, which is the only close offensive category.
  10. Wow what a clutch day for Twist and Trout. All the offensive numbers he needed and a key hold from Luis Avilan. Hats off to FTD! Very deserved. And to realmin, whose great season should be remembered in spite of losing this. These playoffs were tight from start to finish.
  11. 103 wRC+ though! I'd need to acquire a stud young infielder in moving Kemp.
  12. Just updated my trade block! So fired up for the offseason. I also made a Fangraphs leaderboard for my team, to make it easy for others to analyze my players: http://tinyurl.com/l7wd9oe
  13. I assumed Romero was on someone's farm lol, although I was lower in the waiver order than you were anyway. Great pick-up. The free agent pitching prospect pool has been surprisingly deep. I now have Holmberg, Oberholtzer, Nolin and Erik Johnson, all out of FA. None have big ceilings, but one or two could turn into decent starters as early as next year.
  14. The stats wouldn't count of course lol. Whether there's an additional penalty or not isn't covered in the rules. At any rate, the start is tomorrow so NJH will probably correct this before it's a real issue.
  15. My team is 0-20 so far today. Has anyone ever had a worse 0-fer?
  16. I dunno, the risk of missing out on the first year was pretty big. I expect Braun to be good next year and in the future so you should be fine, but my present hopes would be crushed had I taken him.
  17. This is why I didn't draft Braun. Very happy with McCutchen, who's an easy guy to cheer for too.
  18. Nice job with the projected win%! Was expecting that big drop in pitching, mine has been brutal. Although it's nice to see the improvements I've made on offense have shown up. This last stretch of the season is going to be really interesting.
  19. Looks like he'll stay off the DL but you never know. It's mostly swelling that's the issue I believe, no structural damage. Annoying nonetheless.
  20. I think Wheeler's a future ace and his entire career is still ahead of him. And he's already in the Majors, not your typical prospect. Kemp is great and I like him, but it's hard to say what kind of a steals impact he'll have this year and in the future. If he's more a 10-15 SB guy, that's not a super-elite player and there's a chance the other numbers aren't quite there either. I was interested in Kemp because he does have that high upside and I'll need that to match the other offenses in the league. But I realize that I'm paying a premium for a player that has a lot of risk.
  21. So in his midseason rankings KLaw had Eddie Butler at 28th. Other outlets have also ranked him. And nobody drafted this kid lol. I anticipate he'll be added to Yahoo before next season, setting up a waiver frenzy.
  22. I've heard that they could trade Freese and move Carpenter to 3B. Lots of options. St. Louis also has a logjam in the OF (Taveras), at 1B (Adams), and in the rotation (an entire bullpen of starters). Crazy.
  23. Yep we all got what we wanted; Carter gives my team a new look. I'm very high on Wong but the emergence of Kipnis made him expendable.
  24. There's a game log feature that lets you highlight date ranges in a similar manner.
  25. I like your end but it's a fair deal that makes sense for both sides. Santana is a stud and good catchers are hard to find. I'll always take the side that has the proven stud. I'm also coming around on the idea that in a three-OF format the replacement level at outfield is pretty high -- everyone seems to have a solid outfielder or two sitting on their bench. Myers is a great prospect and has looked good but he needs to reach that 35 HR ceiling for this trade to work out. I do think Myers can reach that and has a chance to be special, which is why I say it's fair.
