Martin doesn't have to time his swing while catching the ball, but I'd imagine it takes more concentration and energy to go after it than it does to just set the glove and have the pitcher hit it.
but no one wanted Navarro. they still cant ditch his ass which is probably what they really want. only way we unload this fat ass is if another team has at least one major injury to their starting catcher and they need a backup.
I have heard of it happening before, but it's not often. most guys on waivers are just happy to get a call. I think if the team claiming them cant/wont guarantee MLB ball they can pass.

Jays are trying to do what the yankees did when they brought up their core 4. a group of young guys who all start in the league at the same time and learn and grow together to give the team a solid core group for the next decade. if it works it will be amazing.
