Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Lot of melodrama in this afternoons game day thread.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Yes, established Zoo's and their keepers treat them like gold, for their unfortunate, situations. I always support the local Zoo in Toronto, and I'm broke. In my experience North American zoos are normally great at using large enclosures with lots of plants / rocks etc for the animals too. The LA zoo, and the Bronx zoo are the best I've been to. Zoos are also essential for breeding programs for endangered species.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 My bucket list, is to go to SD, California. World renowned Zoo. Plus catch a ballgame. Oh... and swim with an Orca. Small world mate, I'm going to San Diego (and San Francisco) in March/April, and will be going to the zoo and a ballgame, haha.

There's a lot of BS zoo's man, one by my community finally was shut down in Bowmanville, google the atrocities. I have a pic with my niece and her (the lion's) baby. You can hear the stress from her mother behind us... the closest you could ever get to animals, but soon found out they were all mis-treated. Google it, the videos explain the place being shut-down. There's many more, all over the world. This is likely what Boxy's upset with. Edit: Oh s***, they re-opened under new ownership. The previous owner claimed mental health why he beat his tigers?

I used to hate going to the Buffalo zoo. that is the type of zoo that gave proper zoos a bad name. small cages where animals had to walk in their own filth. The modern zoo tries to create a habitat that is kinder to the animals and gives people a chance to see animals they would otherwise only see in old tv footage. most modern zoos have animals that are bred and raised in zoos they have never been wild. The one that were wild are animals rescued from a situation far worse than a zoo. I get a season pass at the local zoo ever year. They do a lot of work raising money to protect animals in the wild. The try to educate zoo goers about the plight of endangered species.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Yes, rescued from the freedom of the wild to safe caged confinement where they are gawked at for 12 hours a day by a crowd of drooling morons. You are insufferable today. Did you cry during Madagascar?

All the major ones though are great though, and that's where most of the research and conservation efforts are.

I agree for the most part of this post... animals get tagged and are set free in the wild, if slaughtered or fail, they get brought back. The municipal zoo's do everything in their part to let them back out, sometimes, it's just unfortunate. These folks dedicate their lives for these animals to rodents to bugs, it must be tough. It's a passion and love, takes a certain type of courageous lifestyle, and I adore that.

This huge Tiger had like a 15x25 concrete cell to walk around in. Pretty sure the Tiger from that movie was there too IIRC. The Bronx Zoo on the other hand is amazing. Tons of room and you would have no idea you were in NYC by walking around there.

There indoors is big but it's drag dark and depressing.

CanuckofChicago Verified Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 If you or next time visit Chicago, make sure to check out Lincoln Park Zoo. It is a great zoo in the middle of the city, it has a Gorilla and Penquin enclosures and it is close to the water as well. Just so easy to walk around and very clean. Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 We have been card carrying members of Toronto zoo for years. If you plan to go more than once and with family it is well worth it. With membership you don't have to kill yourself trying to walk the whole zoo because of multiple trips. Animals seem more active in the cooler weather. Pro tip: if you get the membership pay extra to get parking included; you will save big throughout the year.

I just reminded myself, rent a car with insurance, and drive through the African Lion Safari, the baboons might tear your car apart if you feed them and runout or tear it apart because you have nothing, lol. I always went through, they're hilarious. Plus a shitbox or good coverage.
