Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Morales is a career .340 wOBA hitter, you guys - that's comfortably above average. Even in this down year, he's still a league average bat. Obviously, for the contract he signed, we need more from him. But wait! His xStats indicate that his numbers this season should have been a lot better than they have been so far, so perhaps it's just a case of him getting more than his fair share of bad luck. Everybody calm their titties! He's been doing a lot of fishing for breaking balls, and teams have been happy to give him a steady supply of them. As soon as he knocks that nonsense off, he'll be fine.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 What upside exactly? He's been pretty good at hitting a baseball in his career?
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 He's been pretty good at hitting a baseball? He hasn't this year. He's old as f*** and on the decline. He most certainly doesn't have "a lot of upside"
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Author Posted July 27, 2017 What upside exactly? The post where he explains it, the one you just replied to.
wk680 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Estrada falling apart in the 5th again ugh. I was hoping he could pitch 6 scoreless and restore some trade value. With only 1 quality start in his past 9, there is only so much one good game now would be able to restore. At least he was able to finish off the 5th and striking out one their best hitters. Could be still in line for a quality start but considering the pitch count, I suspect he is done for the night. Probably last game pitching for the Jays, but I would not be surprised to see them keep him if nothing much is offered up for trade.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Blackburn one hitting us through five. *sigh*

He most certainly doesn't have "a lot of upside" There's enough to make him a useful player for us next year. Watching him hit ground balls and trot around the bases on a daily basis may make it a lot more difficult to see it though I guess. Just my opinion though
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 The post where he explains it, the one you just replied to. Explains the fact that he's been a good hitter in the past? Guys like Morales aren't getting paid. Holy f*** gents. I like Shatkins, but let's admit the Morales deal was a mistake. He's not a pre 30's Smoak.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Author Posted July 27, 2017 I simply stated he could be replaced at league min. By who?
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 By who? Anyone providing positive value. WTF are you even arguing here? He's at -0.4 WAR though I'm sure you know that.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Author Posted July 27, 2017 Might've been off the plate Buck?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Anyone providing positive value. WTF are you even arguing here? He's at -0.4 WAR though I'm sure you know that. Finding available, positive WAR hitters (at league min) at the DH spot might not be as easy as you think.

I'm not arguing man? lol... a league min player won't provide positive value unless he's a stud bat. We don't have one, plus we're stuck with Kendrys, so this is all moot.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Finding available, positive WAR hitters (at league min) at the DH spot might not be as easy as you think. Easy to find at under $13M a season.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Author Posted July 27, 2017 Easy to find at under $13M a season. 11M and what happened to league min?

I like Shatkins, but let's admit the Morales deal was a mistake. He's not a pre 30's Smoak. The win on Smoak versus EE is worth 2 Morales contracts but yes let's harp on the one bad move forever. If the Jays' FO calls up Cleveland to offer Smoak and Morales for EE, Cleveland takes that in a heartbeat.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Strong argument. It appears your jimmies are rustled.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Easy to find at under $13M a season. He makes $11M a season, just saying.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Was it Morales that broke his ankle jumping on home plate after a walk off HR while playing for the Angels?
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 11M and what happened to league min? This all started by me expressing my hatred/frustration with Morales. He's been pretty f***ing terrible. I'm sure a search would reveal many, players providing at least league avg production for near league min. Carry on with the hive like attack over a guy performing at JPA levels though.
