On a campout night in front of 12,087 fans, the Buffalo Bisons put to bed their nine-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Syracuse Chiefs at Coca-Cola Field on Friday.

 

In the bottom of the seventh, Andy Burns broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run shot over the 371 sign in left-center field.

 

"I hit a couple of balls hard early in my first two at bats. Then in my third at-bat, I got a good pitch to hit and put a good swing on it," noted Burns postgame.

 

"Luckily it got out."

 

In his second start with the Herd, Scott Copeland took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before a single by Matt Skole broke up the bid for a no-no. The 28-year-old Texan limited the Chiefs to four hits and a run, punching out six before leaving the game with one out in the sixth.

 

"We got great pitching today," said manager Gary Allenson.

 

"Copeland was the Scott Copeland of last year."

 

Bo Shultz shut down the Chiefs' threat in the sixth, inducing a fly ball and a grounder with two runners on to end the inning.

 

Danny Barnes continues to impress as he sat down all six hitters that came his way.

 

The right-hander kept Syracuse batters off balance with his changeup, adding to more K's to his stats sheet while lowering his ERA to 0.54.

 

"It's not easy to go two innings and that's a hot-hitting club right there that he shut down tonight," added Allenson of his reliever.

 

Chiefs' starter Paulo Espino matched his mound counterpart with six strikeouts, also surrendering a lone run on five hits over a full six frames.

 

Matt Dominguez took Espino deep to center, giving the Herd a 1-0 advantage in the second.

 

The highlight of the night went to Darrell Ceciliani. Buffalo's left-fielder made a sensational diving grab at full speed as he entered foul territory, taking extra-bases away from Christopher Bostick in the bottom of the eighth.

DUNEDIN, FL - The Dunedin Blue Jays (21-14) were down to their final strike twice in the bottom of the ninth, but a two-run single by 2B Jorge Flores off RHP Jose Adames (BS, 2 & L, 1-4) propelled them to a 3-2 walk-off win over the Jupiter Hammerheads (21-14) on Friday Night.

 

RHP Jon Harris tossed a career-high 7.2 innings, making one bad pitch to 1B Taylor Ard who scored the only run against Harris with a solo home run. The Missouri State product fanned four in his FSL home debut.

 

Ard's home run in the second started the scoring, but Dunedin grabbed one of their own in the bottom of the inning when RF D.J. Davis singled to right, plating LF L.B. Dantzler. From the second inning on, we remained scoreless until the ninth, but we did not get there without some drama.

 

With a runner on third and two down in the top of the sixth, RF John Norwood lasered a ball to right field, right at D.J. Davis. It appeared as though Davis had the ball pop out of his glove as he went to make the catch and trot back into the dugout, but the ball was ruled caught by field umpire Matt Snodgrass, which kept the game tied at one.

 

In the eighth, Dunedin loaded the bases on walks, but could not score which brought us to the ninth.

 

After a walk to Norwood with LHP Alonzo Gonzalez (W, 6-4) on the mound, LF Dexter Kjerstad reached on an error by 1B Mike Reeves which brought Norwood to third. Ard then lifted a sac fly to shallow right to score the go-ahead run. With Kjerstad tagging to second, SS Rony Cabrera missled a ball to the gap in right center. Davis sprinted it down and made a fantastic diving catch, doubling up the runner in the process to end the inning.

 

In the bottom of the ninth, the Jays dealt with hard-thrower Jose Adames. C Danny Jansen singled with one out and was replaced on the basepaths by Josh Almonte. After Davis struck out, 3B Dickie Joe Thon singled to left with two down while Almonte went first to third. Reeves then walked to load the bases followed by Flores' walk-off hit to left-center that scored a pair for the 3-2 win.

 

Dunedin's RHP Sean Reid-Foley goes Saturday against LHP Michael Mader in a 6:30 PM start.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - David Rodriguez was hit with a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning, pushing the Bowling Green Hot Rods (20-13, 57-45) to a 3-2 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (18-16, 54-50) and a series victory on Friday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.

 

The Hot Rods rebuilt their lead for the top Eastern Division playoff spot to 2.5 games over the Lugnuts.

 

Lansing opened the game with a smash: a leadoff home run by All-Star Andrew Guillotte to left field, his fourth homer of the year.

 

The Hot Rods tied the game in the bottom of the first on a David Olmedo-Barrera RBI grounder, and then took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on a Kewby Meyer RBI single.

 

Guillotte opened the sixth inning by working a seven-pitch walk from Hot Rods starter Genesis Cabrera. Jake Thomas followed with an 11-pitch walk, sending Cabrera to the showers. Bowling Green turned to reliever Fernando Baez, and Max Pentecost promptly lashed a game-tying RBI single.

 

In the seventh inning, however, back-to-back one-out singles by Brandon Lowe and Michael Russell off reliever Tom Robson (Loss, 0-3) set up the Hot Rods to retake the lead. Both runners moved up one base as David Olmedo-Barrera grounded out to second. Robson fell behind Brett Sullivan 2-and-0, and the Lugnuts elected to intentionally walk Sullivan to load the bases.

 

That brought up Rodriguez.

 

With a 1-2 count, a Robson pitch flew up and in. Rodriguez protested that he had been hit, but home plate umpire Ryan Wilhelms made no immediate signal. Instead, he conferred with bases umpire Nick Susie before awarding the Hot Rods batter first base, forcing in the go-ahead run.

 

Bowling Green reliever Baez (Win, 1-1) pitched three scoreless innings, striking out five. Tim Ingram pitched a perfect ninth inning for his third save.

 

Lugnuts starter Jordan Romano allowed two runs on six hits in four innings in a no-decision.

 

Lansing was led offensively by Guillotte, who was 1-for-3 with a walk and both runs scored, and Pentecost, who went 2-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch. Pentecost finished the series with seven hits, one walk and one HBP in 12 plate appearances, raising his batting average to .317.

 

The second leg of the Lugnuts' seven-game road trip brings the ballclub to Fort Wayne's Parkview Field for a four-game series starting at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. Lugs left-hander Angel Perdomo (3-5, 2.97) to the mound against TinCaps right-hander Jacob Nix (2-4, 4.28).
