Scott Diamond

For just the second time this year, the Buffalo Bisons failed to win while outhitting their opponent.

The Herd left 11 runners on base in a 5-2 loss to the Red Wings Tuesday night at Frontier Field.

The Bisons had a streak of five consecutive innings where they got their leadoff batter on, but also went through five frames in a row where they stranded runners in scoring position.

Buffalo started the night off well by scoring a run in the top of the first. With one out, Andy Burns smacked a ball high off of the fence in straightaway center for a double. He came around two batters later as Jesus Montero lofted a ball just over first and inside the right-field line for his 64th hit of the campaign.

Domonic Brown was the only other member of the Herd to successfully navigate the base paths. The 6-foot-5 right fielder shot a ball down the first baseline in the sixth for a double and was cashed in on Darrell Ceciliani's second single of the night, making it a 3-2 game for Rochester.

Coming in with a team-low 2.2 runs of support, Scott Diamond pitched well but was still saddled with the loss. The lefty struck out a season-best six batters over 6.1 innings of work while walking a pair.

The Red Wings used six hits to score five times off of Diamond, including two runs which were unearned.

Both unearned tallies came in the fifth after Brown dropped a fly ball while moving to the line in right field. That allowed Wilfredo Tovar to reach third and John Ryan Murphy to belt his first homerun of the year with two out, giving the Red Wings the opportunity to take the lead and make it a 3-1 contest.

Rochester then boosted its advantage to 5-2 with a run in each of the next two innings.

Eddie Rosario doubled off of Diamond and was batted in by Tovar in the sixth. Adam Walker walked to lead off the seventh and moved to second on a wild pitch. He eventually made his way to third on Diamond's 100th and final pitch of the night - a strikeout of Murphy that bounced in front of catcher A.J. Jimenez, forcing a throw to first as Walker scampered up 90 feet.

At that point, Chad Girodo came on in relief and gave up an RBI single to James Beresford for the Wings' fifth run.

Logan Darnell gave up 10 hits and was charged with both runs while improving his record to 6-5. The 27-year-old lefty came into Tuesday's action having allowed just one run over 15 innings in two starts against the Herd this year.

BISONS NOTES:

Prior to the game, reliever Pat Venditte was recalled to the Blue Jays…Dalton Pompey's third-inning single extended his road hitting streak to 14 games. He also has an overall streak of nine games going as well…Scott Diamond has now pitched 74 innings in 2016, retaking the IL-lead from teammate Wade LeBlanc. LeBlanc goes tomorrow back in Buffalo to start the second half of the home-and-home series with the Red Wings.

MANCHESTER, NH - Ryan Lavarnway went 3-for-3 with a home run and three runs batted in, but the Fisher Cats fell 5-3 to Richmond on Tuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Lavarnway doubled into the left field corner in the bottom of the first inning, driving in Melky Mesa, who had singled. His two-run homer in the sixth, the first Lavarnway has hit as a member of the Fisher Cats, cut the Flying Squirrels lead to 5-3.

Richmond (21-37) moved in front with solo homers by Ryder Jones and Hunter Cole in the top of the third inning off New Hampshire starter Shane Dawson (LP: 3-3) to take a 2-1 lead.

The Flying Squirrels tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Steve Lerud reached on a hit-by-pitch and Ali Castillo doubled. Myles Schroder singled to make it 3-1 and Christian Arroyo followed with a sacrifice fly.

Richmond tacked on an insurance run in the eighth. Ali Castillo singled, stole second and scored on a single by Myles Schroder.

Richmond starter and winning pitcher Dan Slania (4-4) worked the first five innings, allowing one run on six hits. He walked one and struck out five. Tyler Rogers earned his seventh save, working around a walk to Roemon Fields in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Dwight Smith Jr. went 2-for-4 with a single and a double for the Fisher Cats (26-31).

EASTLAKE, OH - Willi Castro's sacrifice fly capped a two-run rally in the bottom of the ninth, giving the host Lake County Captains (34-24) a rollercoaster 7-6 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (29-27) on Tuesday night at Classic Park.

The Lugnuts had come back from 4-0 and 5-4 deficits in the opener of the three-game series, taking their first lead in the eighth at 6-5 on a pinch-hit home run from newly-minted All-Star Juan Kelly.

But Lake County came back against All-Star closer Dusty Isaacs (Blown Save, 3; Loss, 1-2). Sam Haggerty drew a leadoff walk and Anthony Miller reached on a fielding error by second baseman J.C. Cardenas. Isaacs struck out Silento Sayles before Nathan Lukes tied the game with an RBI double to left.

Castro followed with a fly ball to deep center field, easily bringing in pinch-runner Jose Medina with the decisive run.

In the loss, the Lugnuts collected seven extra-base hits, including a double and a triple from left fielder Jake Thomas in his Midwest League debut. Center fielder Lane Thomas added a 1-for-3 showing, scoring two runs, drawing a walk and belting his fourth home run of the year.

Thomas's and Kelly's roundtrippers were two of the five home runs swatted in the game. Lake County catcher Francisco Mejia hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and Connor Marabell knocked a two-run home run in the third and a solo shot in the sixth.

The second game of the three-game series is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday; the Lugnuts' starter is yet to be announced, while Lake County has tabbed prospect left-hander Sam Hentges (1-4, 6.30).

after 2 hits and BB tonight, Pompey with an OBP > .370

Better than Carrera, possibly better OF than Bautista

Pompey has been hot. 134 wRC+ over the past calendar month not including today.

Still prone to the odd bone headed mistake though.. All this happened within the first two innings of the same game lol

I would prefer Pompey getting everyday at-bats. If they moved Bautista to 1B that would be lovely. He should be playing 1B atleast once a week and DHIng once a week as well.

Next 2 drafts are especially important. We need to hit on some picks. Good chance we have 3 first round picks next year.
