I'm a Republican on the side so we'll agree to disagree

pet peeve: Political inclinations dictating one's stance on scientific issues. Unless you've read (and are able to understand) primary scientific research, you don't get to have an opinion on vaccination, or climate change. The average person is as informed on those issues as they are about molecular biophysics or quantum field theory, and should really just defer to scientific consensus.

Your identification as a Republican should not dictate your stance on climate science research.

I think it's just as likely a major disease (natural or man made) wipes out the majority of the human population before climate change does.

I don't think this is very likely. Mortality runs counterproductive to spreadability for diseases, and the human population is so massive and diverse at this point.

If we want to get serious, if humanity suffers an apocalypse it will most likely be from a combination of things. Even if it's chiefly climate change, that problem isn't distinct from global conflict (war) or even disease.

50% of us die from being baked by the sun

20% die in floods

10% die from disease

5% die from war

0.000000000001% die from a Republican Muslim suicide bomber that allahu akbars our fantasy leagues because we tread on his whatever amendment rights for some reason

Being a Republican should have nothing to do with what you think about climate science research.

I'm not trying to whip out degrees brother. I get what you're saying.

This has been going on for centuries. It isn't going to stop any time soon. People either are scared by and attack what they don't understand, or they try to jamb it into their limited view of how things work / should be.

I think it's more likely that one of the other species (probably lizards or apes), evolve and take revenge on the human species.

Everybody send me $20, and I'll hold on to the money, and award it to the winner once we establish the cause of the end of man.

It's just incredibly frustrating that this one issue that should be completely the domain of scientists has been dragged into the ridiculous world of partisan politics. I don't want to hear Ted Cruz talking about arctic sea ice trends, and I don't want liberal media sources reporting on nuanced climate models that they aren't qualified to discuss. There are, maybe, a few thousand people in the world with opinions on the subject that matter, and they should be in direct communication with world leaders, not sitting on Fox News arguing with some shill from Exxon Mobil.

Extinction is inevitable for all species and planets alike. I'm not sure I understand your point... religion has contributed more to the impending apocalypse than any other factor, including nuclear weapons.

If you kind of merge the religions prophecies basically the end times point to nuclear war and then everyone at some point coming together and being like wtf are we doing. As njh mentioned, nuclear war might just be the first big domino to drop in wiping us out. God is the only common denominator we have that makes us brothers with people in Africa say. The only way the world can survive is If it's one. Obviously that's not feasible in today's world but in a hypothetical scenario Gods way of ruling is the only system I see that works.

I just derailed the thread

First time I'm guilty of it in long time

My bad

Religion's ability to poison everything knows no limits. Even things as small as this thread can fall victim.

Why does Abraham not like gambling?

You'd think he'd have a different stance since he gambled his own son's life based on what the voices in his head told him to do.

Side note, I was at a particularly s***** mall today waiting for a bus and this preachy Christian husband and wife came around distributing religious literature. I was in a passive mood and I was just gonna chuck it in the trash regardless so I accepted it. Then his wife comes by and starts preaching by saying "don't worry, we're not Jehovah's witnesses" as if that would make me think she was any less crazy and delusional. Then she wouldn't leave me alone and started talking down asking if I knew about heaven and s***. I said heaven wasn't real and she basically left me alone lol.

Ahh, he knows it's all for fun.

I like the guy, but he deserves a hard time for LOD, and he knows it.

Don't worry, I get you.
