King Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Jays took HS RHP Ryan Feltner. Named Ohio Baseball player of the year last week http://highschoolsports.cleveland.com/news/article/-4836004196198382490/walsh-jesuits-ryan-feltner-named-2015-gatorade-ohio-baseball-player-of-the-year/ CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio -- Walsh Jesuit senior pitcher Ryan Feltner has been named 2015 Gatorade Ohio Baseball Player of the Year. Feltner, an Ohio State signee, joins Tyler Skulina (2009) as the second Walsh Jesuit player to win the Gatorade award. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound senior right-handed pitcher and first baseman led the Warriors to a 26-4 record and the Division I Canton regional tournament. Feltner was a 7-2 and recorded 56 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched. A 2014 First Team All-State selection, he posted a .326 batting average with a pair of home runs, 12 RBI and a .581 slugging percentage entering the postseason. “Ryan Feltner is one of the finest, brightest, most mature and sincere young men I have had the good fortune to coach,” said Walsh Jesuit High head coach Chris Kaczmar. “He is a tremendous, national-caliber talent on the mound as well as in our lineup who will be missed a great deal once he graduates. I am very proud of his deserving success.” Feltner has maintained a 3.10 GPA in the classroom. He has volunteered locally on behalf of The American Cancer Society, the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and as a youth baseball coach. The Gatorade Ohio Player of the Year award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Feltner as Ohio’s best high school baseball player. He is now eligible for the Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year award. Past winners of the national award include Derek Jeter, Roy Halladay, David Price and Chipper Jones.

King Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Nathan Rode @NathanRode 49s49 seconds ago #BlueJays get RHP Ryan Feltner in 25th. Simple, repeatable delivery. Sits 89-90 w/ good feel for breaking ball. #mlbdraft Feltner made a jump last summer that everyone was expecting. The 6-foot-3, 175-pounder sped up his delivery, which helped to increase his arm speed. His fastball now sits in the high 80s and regularly touches 90 mph. He shows a three-pitch mix with a sharper breaking ball now and a solid changeup with good arm speed and sink. http://www.prepbaseballreport.com/news/OH/Super-60-Spotlight-Ryan-Feltner-2816405739

King Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Binghamton SR OF Jake Thomas has a swing that’s easy to see making consistent hard contact no matter the level of competition. His profile gets a little bit murkier beyond that, but he’s positioned himself to get drafted if he can keep up his level of production at the plate all the same. http://baseballdraftreport.com/tag/jake-thomas/ Binghamton University senior outfielder racked up five RBI in a three-game season-opening series against Auburn University this past weekend, and the America East Conference recognized him as its Player of the Week on Tuesday. Thomas, a left-handed hitting resident of Merrick, N.Y., went 6-for-13 with a triple, one home run, five RBI and three runs scored in three games against Auburn. He ignited the offense in the team's 11-5 win on Saturday when he went 4-for-5 with a three-run home run to left field in the fifth inning. He also tripled in the game. "Early on, I'm not sure some of the programs we play will try to pitch around him, which will probably be good for him," Binghamton coach Tim Sinicki said of Thomas last week during the team's media day. "We can try to get him off to a good start. Later in America East play, I think people will not want Jake Thomas to beat them. They may seek and try to find ways to have someone else in our lineup be the guy. "But Jake is as good as we've had, offensively, and if he can put it all together this year there's no reason he won't play professional baseball beyond Binghamton." Thomas had at least one hit in all three games against Auburn. He finished the weekend with an .846 slugging percentage. Thomas entered this season with career totals of 156 hits, 89 runs scored, 14 home runs, 23 doubles, 96 RBI and 103 walks in 146 games. http://www.pressconnects.com/story/bu-blog/2015/02/17/thomas-player-week/23585827/

Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Pompey is crying right now I don't get this. Why? Please explain, I'm "dumn" in this thread. Is it because Tristan Pompey is eligible but not being picked?
