Before Twitter, some of you may recall, CNN headlines sports....well long before Twitter that is.

Every 15 minutes past the hour a quick update on sports.

I used to tune into that every hour, baseball trades and signings would break there. I think I learnt about the Alomar trade from CNN headline sports....imagine that, seeing Fred McGriff traded away, your favorite player ever and having to wait an hour for the next update.

I still remember the end of the quick update....don't know how to spell the name though....

I still have my blue Exhibition Stadium folding chair... Looking forward to building a mount for it and having it in my yard (once I get a damn yard... hopefully in 2015...)

A ballpark along the lake where Ontario Place is would have been really nice. Thing is it would have been a pain to get to (no subway access) and there aren't many venues around which are walking distance where people could go before and after games.

I still think Rogers Centre can work and work well

Continue to rework the concourse and common areas and make it more organic. Less concrete. More nice details.

Put in grass

Leave the roof open the majority of the time during the summer and only close it during really bad weather that would result in game cancellations

That'll do for another 10 years

Thing is Rogers Centre only leaves the roof open unless its perfect weather which peeves me off. Even games in April on decent days, the roof is closed. It's an ugly venue for any sporting event (baseball, football especially) - only good thing about the Rogers Centre is that its perfectly located.

Yea it's quite simple to get to. Just park at any subway station and take it right down. I still dont think people realize how many other stadiums like the Trop really are in the middle of no where

after the stadium closed but wasn't torn down I parked in the middle of it for some event. I had a tool set in the car and got caught trying to remove a bench. Didn't get in trouble...were just told to get out.

I used to work at the CNE when I was in highschool, I found the seat in a store room in the basement of the bandshell.

Pretty sure the updates were every 20 & 50 minutes past the hour. Remember Van Earl Wright.. "that ball is hit deep.... over the wall in left field (emphatically)". Nick Charles and Fred Hickman were the hosts of the 30 minute Headline Sports segment. Great show, I miss it.

Nice try!

Though I never went to that stadium, from the pics it looks like more of a ball park then Rogers Centre.

Yeah, it was a shithole. Please don't ever suggest that Exhibition Stadium > Skydome.

amazing when the fans filled those bleachers right to the very end

(despite sitting so far away from the back of the outfield fence lol)

baseball fever . . . catch it!

That pic made it look much better than what it was. Those 1B seats and benches looked straight across to the OF seats. Everything outside of the Southeast corner (behind the plate) was awkward to sit in.

Yeah, putting grass in the stadium is key. Baseball should be played on grass, and grass only, especially MLB. That'll improve the baseball viewing experience tremendously for me.

Beeston has sounded sincere in the past when he's said that he's determined to get grass in the Rogers Centre for the 2018 season. Hopefully the dream of grass doesn't die or become more delayed with Beeston's imminent/eventual departure.

Funny the price for those outfield seats were all the same

Funny how I remember it being so much more of a rectangle than that. I knew there was some curve of the OF stands but I didn't realize that for the Argos the North side was so much closer to the field than the South Side.

Those OF seats were all the same price as it was General Admission...first come first serve. Home Openers we'd like up at 7:00 am to sit there with our $2 A&P seats.

anybody here ever sit in those furthest away bleacher seats for a baseball game that were 820 feet (250 m) from home plate? lol Edited by CrackerJack

The Ex quite s***** for everything. Saw Stones there in the early 80's in the afternoon.... was OK but not the way to see the f***ing Stones

I saw a couple of summer night Grandstand shows for Springsteen and Neil Young which were kinda cool with the lights of the CNE (ferris wheel etc.) shining in the background.

I saw The Clash, and Queen both shows were Grandstand shows. but I saw a stadium show for THE WHO, J Geils, Nash The Slash and Heart opened

Here's the seating Plan

In this one the GA seats are $4

The GA seats were better than those metal bench seats. (at least in Left Field)

I moved to Toronto in 1980 from Nova Scotia after finishing a 4 year university degree at Dalhousie in Halifax (yes I am an old-timer). One if the things I wanted to do once I got to the big city was see a major league Blue Jays baseball game (even though I was mainly an Expos fan at the time). I got a seat in the left field stands, which was the original Exhibition Stadium built in 1948 and saw a game between the Blue Jays and Baltimore with Jim Palmer pitching.

My main memory of the game was that the outfield seats were by far the best part of the stadium since the seats were almost completely covered. I also remember sitting in the "new" section along the right infield line and I was not impressed; it was uncomfortable and not what I expected for a major league stadium. The Rogers Centre is much better for watching baseball. I just wish it could be renovated somehow and remove a lot of the concrete structure and even the roof; maybe keep the lower bowl and completely rebuild the upper tiers in a more open style like the new generation retro stadiums such as Camden Yards, which is actually only a few years newer than the Rogers Centre.
