burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 BNS tweeted out we start the season in NY on April 6 for the Yankees home opener. Seems a week late but apparently the season doesn't start till April 5 Edit: Home Opener April 13 vs Rays
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Hmmm Why is the regular season starting so late next year??

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 Not sure why they are making the sched. start later and finish later. Most people are dying by April 1 to watch baseball and by September the NFL has started
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 6 games against 1 NL opponent?? WTF??

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 Exactly. And they don't want the WS to spill in to November. Don't know why they've done this. My guess is April crowds are usually terrible but im not sure late September will be any better with the the NFL and NCAA being in full force.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Maybe they feel too many games get rained out in April? Cause that really is annoying. Not sure 1 week will really help that though. Northern teams should have retractable domes.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Disagree I think every stadium should be open air. Our next stadium will be. Shorter regular season from mid April to mid September with all open air stadiums might be the best option but will never happen.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Tigers and White Sox had a ton of games rained out at the start of the season. Nobody likes that.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Call it ******** or not but I was told by a Toronto area Architect that they have 2 sites picked out pretty much side by side in downtown Toronto closer to lake reserved. He said one for sure is for an NFL Football Stadium. The other is a new hockey arena which wouldn't make sense or possibly a baseball stadium. Hes been apart of a lot of the hotel and condo design in Toronto since the late 90's. I work out with this guy hes loaded. The rumoured NHL expansion and re-location team locations for 2017 are Las Vegas, Seattle, Toronto (second team) and Quebec City so it makes sense for another hockey arena. This scheduling is probably because of how s*** the winter was last year and this year is expected to be equally as bad if not worse. Too many snowed and rained out games.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 Tigers and White Sox had a ton of games rained out at the start of the season. Nobody likes that. Then have them play more road games in April? There are ways around this but I don't expect the MLB to ever be smart. Im sure the TV ratings are terrible in September for non contending teams compared to in April.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Yea but that team could just share the ACC. It works for the Stables Center. They even do a different lighting pattern Between scheduling concerts, hockey and basketball I don't see how they could run a second team there.
vdartanian Verified Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Finally the Jay's trip to Seattle will be on a weekend instead of mid-week. It's about time MLB did this. You think the stadium was overrun by Canadians before...., its going to be bananas next year.
vdartanian Verified Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Between scheduling concerts, hockey and basketball I don't see how they could run a second team there. Staples Center manages just fine with the Lakers/Clippers/Kings. Sure they have there fair share of concerts/events/conventions as well
Sorrow Verified Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Staples Center manages just fine with the Lakers/Clippers/Kings. Sure they have there fair share of concerts/events/conventions as well Could also be greed. I feel like a second Toronto team would also sell out a huge portion of the time.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 3 games postponed in the first week of the season last year (ending April 5). 2 the following week (same day). 5 the week after (4 the same day) It's April. Rain happens. You can't avoid it. You get in to August, September and October, and you have huge weather systems moving in ... hurricanes, trop storms, remnants of those bigger storms, etc. ... and then you are forced to postpone more "meaningful" games with less time to make them up. If they're doing it for weather concerns, they're stupid. My guess is it is because of the April crowds but I would think the TV numbers would be much better in April compared to September for half the league.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Can't see owners, players or anyone being interested in cutting out off days. The amount of money the make doesn't hide the fact that they're still human, and that their bodies need proper recovery time. If anything, the amount of money invested in players makes off days that much more necessary. Cut the season shorter, make the playoffs earlier, if you must. Regular season games shouldn't be going into October.

Play more games in Florida Arizona California plus domed cities like Toronto Seattle Milwaukee early in the year. I doubt any of the players would mind even if it delays their home openers in New York or Chicago. I've always thought they should do this.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 The 1992 and 1993 seasons both started on April 6th. It's a sign.
