KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Is that why Buehrle and Kershaw get projected too low? Nox? JFAS?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I'm neither but I believe so. Although JFaS' projections included them I think.
Nox Verified Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Is that why Buehrle and Kershaw get projected too low? Nox? JFAS? Not sure if their fielding skill is included to be honest.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Do they also account for the pitcher's ability to shut down the running game? Johnny Cueto in particular is fantastic at doing so, probably one of the reasons he tends to outperform FIP.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I seem to remember an article about Hellickson and his early career low BABIP not regressing partially because of his own defense (it went way up in 2013 so that theory is tough to buy) and Hellickson is far from the defender that Kershaw or Buehrle are.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Yes, read the linked article lol. Aha! I assumed the adjustments were just based off their preferred fielding metric. Thanks.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Author Posted July 18, 2014 A: Projections are awesome! So much better than you! B: What's in them? A: I dunno. But yer stoopit! Do you really think that kind of silly snark belongs in a thread where not only are the flaws of projections being discussed but one poster has actually shared the concrete steps he has taken to improve them?
