TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Best I can say about him is that he's not a Jays product. He fits Seitzer's style more as he'll take a lot of pitches and does a great job of fouling off pitches with 2 strikes. I await the barrage of "Can Dan Johnson stick?" threads if he starts 3 for his first 8. Or the "DFA DJ" if he goes 0 fer.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Considering his power and gawdy walk totals, he deserves a shot. Still, we should be looking for an upgrade like Chase Headley, for example, ASAP.
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I think we'll be surprised and I can see him getting daily work at first. It's a good solution while we wait for someone to return and it gives us options moving Bautista to either RF or 3B. I don't want to see up and coming pitching prospects moved for a temp solution.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 When was Korecky called up, I missed that one? He wasn't, they DFA'd him to clear a 40-man spot. He should clear waivers and get outrighted back to Buffalo.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 So what is the plan for guys in terms of position? Has Gibby said yet?
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 So what is the plan for guys in terms of position? Has Gibby said yet? No I don't think so. KingKat and I posted line up possibilities with Johnson called up in your 3rd basemen thread on pages 2/3. Mine addressed your want of getting Francisco off the field as well.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 This team is in a never ending downward spiral. lol. Baseball gods hate us. If so they hate the Yankees and Rangers just as much

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 This season is a write-off but I'm still excited to see Dan Johnson We're only 1.5 and 3 games out of the wild card and division. And most of our injured players, excluding Lind, will be back shortly after the break.
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 There will be a lot of Jays fans watching their first playoff game in over 20 years drinking beers and snacking on their foot.

Mine addressed your want of getting Francisco off the field as well. Tonight's lineup vs Archer: 1. Jose Reyes (S) SS 2. Munenori Kawasaki (L) 2B 3. Melky Cabrera (S) LF 4. Jose Bautista ® 1B 5. Dioner Navarro (S) C 6. Nolan Reimold ® RF 7. Colby Rasmus (L) CF 8. Dan Johnson (L) DH 9. Juan Francisco (L) 3B
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Francisco 9??? Kawasaki should be hitting 9th
shortstop Verified Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I hear ya G-Snarls... only explanation I can think of is Gibby believes his 2 main run producers are #3 and #4 and wants Kawa in there to try to get on base... personally, I move that lineup up & place Kawa #9

pickoff22 Verified Member Posted July 11, 2014 Author Posted July 11, 2014 Not sure who I would want 2nd.....I mean who would replace Kawa in the top 3....Reimold? That's about the only guy sadly. Kawasaki has a higher OBP than anyone in the 5-9 spot and I like that he can make Archer use up pitches. It ain't a pretty thing to see in a lineup card but given the alternatives I'm ok with it.

Everyone would just move up a notch. If Johnson or Francisco get on base, Reyes' speed is wasted.

I was scouring that list trying to decide who's a better 2 hitter and I couldn't find one either Should just have Melky 2 Bautista 3 I'm even OK with Francisco or Navarro 4 in exchange for that though would of course prefer EE or Lind

JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I might stick Reimold in the #2 spot for a game just because he's swinging the bat well in his limited appearances as a Jay. Hitting in front of Melky and Joey might get hims some fastballs he can turn into doubles. I think the justification for Kawi in the #2 spot his his eye; fighting off pitches, blooping hits to LF, able to draw a walk, might be why. But ugh. Gibby has to work with what he has. I'd probably move people up and get the bigger bats still left in there rather than trying to make something happen with some of the unproven/black holes. Hopefully someone steps up. At least the AS break is close and it'll give them a chance to regroup, figure out what they can do and hopefully come back fresh and confident.
