BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Frustrating winter, no doubt. That freak accident to Izzy sure hurts right now, he even started out half decent, he's not all that great, but a switch hitting Izzy, is better than the hot garbage we're putting on the field at the moment. The Goins stand pat @ 2nd didn't last long. agree with you...Izzy career #s are better than he has showed us and his versatility is an asset. too bad. We so miss Lawrie. He stabilized the D and chipped in with bat at some key times. Also, we lays out for any chance. Love that about him. Its energizing. I miss the good ol days of the hot streak where we were winning on walk off sac bunts!

I wasn't as down on the Mouse as most on this board. I expected a bounce back year and as a guy on the bench if his defense had improved on turf . He looked like that was happening so his loss was more than most made out. Good teams overcome injuries but NO team can lose it,s 1st,2nd,and 3rd baseman and still compete. Add in that Bautista has to DH and we are in the midst of the toughest part of the schedule puts huge pressure on the team. While most fans scream for AA to do something I'm hoping he doesn't panic. I'm not convinced the Jays can overcome this latest round of injuries and also not convinced Rogers is willing to add salary thus any deal will cost more in prospects. AZ seems desperate to shed salary, and Towers has stated that so I would be in favor of adding Prado as I have suggested many times if it only cost money.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Option 4: A bat has always been more important than a starter. 2B has been our biggest need since the start of 2013; the need for a bat just got amplified with the recent string of injuries, but the need has always been there, nonetheless.

The fact that AZ is paying some of McCarthy's remaining salary makes me think they'd be willing to pay some of Prado's. Like you, I don't think the Jays have much budget room if any at all. Maybe the D-Backs can add a prospect for the Jays to take on all of Prado's $? At this point, nothing would surprise me coming from the KT.

This is what's so frustrating for many. It also makes an overpayment more likely with all the injuries. We'll have to wait and see, but at this point, winning 3 of the next 7 would be an accomplishment.

They'll be lucky to take away a single win on this road trip with how the offense is right now, and I don't really see any outcome where they don't get swept by the Angels. Their best bet will be to hit a few homers off the Rays and hope the pitchers continue to keep it together.

I'm really not surprised they're in danger of hitting the break below at .500 or below given how they've played the last month. What looked like a slump against the Cards and Twins turned out to be a major slide coupled with the injuries. Once they lost 3 straight against the White Sox at home, I looked at this road trip and thought they'd be in deep s***. We'll see what happens.

There are gamblers that play these all the time regardless of the pitching match-up regardless of the teams and over history have done very well. I'll try and get the real numbers but I think it's around 67% (I can't remember if that's the first game after swing or the series though).
