KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Everyone should be at least curious to see what a switch from PetCo to Rogers can do for Headley.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Hm, interesting. Not sure who to believe. You can believe both. Andy Martino said the Jays had asked around for opinions on Murphy. Jon Heyman said the Jays were not considering Murphy. So... they discussed Murphy and decided not to consider him for their infield vacancy. --------- We don't "need" one upgrade more than the other. Neither is "more important." Whichever upgrade gives us the most additional wins at a reasonable cost is the one to go with.
Convo Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Too close to the smack and s*** coming out of Mexico They have a bunch of guys that were projected to be way better. Seriously, what the hell is going on over there? Have they fired their hitting coach yet?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 He's batting .207 Yes but that's his absolute nadir offensively. He's at the very worst an excellent defensive replacement while Lawrie is out and with any kind of offensive regression, he could actually be a very valuable player beyond that. He's well worth acquiring if a deal can be reached quickly. Less so if it drags on.
Convo Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 He's batting .207 RoS projections have him at 107 and 111 wRC+ (currently 81)
Convo Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Cool. What's the factor they include for trying to play through the excruciating pain of a herniated disc? In that case you can throw projections out the window. Would not touch with a 10-foot pole.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 And if they're feeling creative, maybe they can expand it to a 3-team deal wherein the acquire the rights to Nick Adenhart. Oh come on. Really?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Headly has to come as a salary dump, wouldn't give up Nolin for him. Fact is that he's rumoured to be injured and is having a horrible season, that has to drop the price tag for acquiring him by quite a bit. I know Nolin is not a sexy prospect and has dealt with groin injuries in 2013 and 2014, but I like the fact he's almost MLB ready and should be in the mix as rotation depth in 2015. What about Everth Cabrera? Last time I checked, he was having a bad season, but can play SS and probably 2B and brings some speed, not sure about his D.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 A guy with a herniated disc playing on turf in the rogers centre, that sounds like a recipe for success.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Not really a slump, Moogy just elaborated on this. The injury is not a rumor if it comes directly from the source/team. I don't think I said slump anywhere, but I've been wrong before! If the injury is legit, then there's no reason to give up anything, maybe Jenkins. He's still playing good defense though, so if you can't find a better option, I'd rather have him than Francisco at 3B. Again, has to come at a big discount, especially in terms of prospects. Just saving them 5M seems like a good deal.
NLJays Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Oh come on. Really? Was just about to say that, you don't joke about a tragedy as painful as Adenhart's death. http://m.mlb.com/video/v4064409/oaklaa-highlights-from-nick-adenharts-final-start/?c_id=mlb R.I.P.

walkoff93 Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I think what this team desperately needs is a solid setup guy. A stud reliever, someone like a Dellin Betances. It would be nice if we had someone on the farm like that. Also, some left handed bats that could hit left-handed pitching would be nice too.

Did you actually say left handed bat that can hit left handed pitching as if those guys are readily available.

kgm1 Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Author Posted June 30, 2014 What a way to kill a thread. In the interests of getting it back on track here is MLBTR. The Blue Jays haven’t shown any interest in Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks since they’re looking to land a better defender at the keystone, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reports. (Similar defensive concerns were also the reason for Toronto’s lack of interest in Daniel Murphy, as Heyman reported over the weekend.) Weeks is hitting .263/.344/.463 in 90 PA against left-handed pitching this season, and would make sense on paper for a Jays team that is need of both second base help and a right-handed bat.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Author Posted July 6, 2014 Wonder what the vote would be if it was held now . We Obviously need a frigging BAT
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Wonder what the vote would be if it was held now . We Obviously need a frigging BAT Yup. A bat (or two... or three) is the team's top priority right now. They can't f***ing score at all
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Yup. A bat (or two... or three) is the team's top priority right now. They can't f***ing score at all And that's before you factor whatever time EE is going to lose. AA should pull the trigger sooner rather than later. All the good postions players are hurt, all the healthy position players are lousy.

They can't f***ing score at all If EE is gone for any length of time it is going to be really tough is compete. Lind is still hurting , Bautista not healthy, Francisco has "Trouble with the Curve"and Lawrie is still gone for 2 to 4 weeks. Yikes
labadee Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 we've needed a bat for some time now. especially someone who feasts on LHP.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Priorities might change from short-term to short-term but making sure there is at least another year of control but the Jays needs haven't really changed that much with the injuries.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 We need Edwin, Bautista and Lawrie.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Yes, 2 in fact. A SS to play 2B till Reyes feels embarrassed enough to move off SS and a RH platoon partner for Lind. Why do I feel like I said this several times in 2013 already?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 We need Edwin, Bautista and Lawrie. Way to go out on a limb there amigo.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I have changed my vote. Bat is definitely the priority now that Stroman has established himself and since Happ is fine as a #5.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 You didn't exactly go out on a limb yourself, we've known about the holes at 2nd and a platoon for Lind for how many years now? I was certainly joking with Ang since he likes to joke around. I did say 'Why do I feel like I said this several times in 2013 already?', when I talked about getting a SS (not a 2B), and a RH platoon for Lind. All good though, no biggie.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 What's more frustrating is that we all know a SS/2B and RH bat should've been acquired in the off season via FA, even AA said so. Failure to address these issues is a fireable offense in my opinion.
JoJo Parker Dunedin Blue Jays - A SS On Tuesday, Parker was just 1-for-5, but the one hit was his first professional home run. Explore JoJo Parker News >
