King Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 Now that we are done the player portion of the draft for the most part, lets see those teams? C - Anze Kopitar C - Travis Konecny LW - Max Pacioretty LW - Bryan Rust RW - Mikko Rantanen RW - Sam Reinhart F - Kirby Dach F - Anthony Beauvillier F - Robert Thomas F - Christian Dvorak F - Evgenii Dadonov D - Shea Theodore D - Ryan Graves Prospects - Arthur Kaliyev, Connor McMichael, Phil Tomasino, Akil Thomas, Brayden Tracey G - Hellebuyck G - Georgiev Prospects - Ukko Pekka Luokkonen, Dustin Wolf Feel pretty good about how my draft went. Might have made one or two picks differently but nothing absurd. I think my only real weakness is that I didn't get into the top 3 picks of the draft to pickup a MacKinnon/Eichel/Kucherov level player. Dropped off considerably after pick 3. I was debating Marner with my first pick but opted for Hellebuyck as I wasn't sure if Les Nordekes was going to grab him or not. Rantanen is (if you squint) Marner-ish anyway so I don't think this affected me that much. Most excited about my prospect picks, probably. I am certain that at least one of Kaliyev, Tomasino or McMichael will be a star, if not two. They were three of my highest ranked prospects in the draft. Also really liked picking up Kirby Dach in the mid rounds. Not hard to see him being a first-line centre for the next 10+ years.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 I've heard wonders on him(Liljegren), this could be a steal.
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 Is BTS through his 5 waiver picks yet? If he grabs waiver 60, regardless, I'm grabbing prospect pick 65. Laikas brother up

I am certain that at least one of Kaliyev, Tomasino or McMichael will be a star, if not two. I like all of those guys, and have seen each live, but stars? I feel like the only one with any star upside is Kaliyev and he is far from a lock due to his poor ankle flexion. They all look like players though which is bodes well for you.

King knows his puck, bro. He's seen plenty play. It's kind of unfair, lol. Just kidding.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 King knows his puck, bro. He's seen plenty play. It's kind of unfair, lol. Just kidding. But is King an expert in ankle flexion evaluation?

McMichael is tracking to be a Rantanen level player Kaliyev is tracking similar to Jonathan Huberdeau Tomasinos comparable is Dylan Larkin

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 But is King an expert in ankle flexion evaluation? lol... yes! Whatever that is, lol.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 Like I said, King know's his puck.
Scion Verified Member Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 lol... yes! Whatever that is, lol. It is everything in skating, without it you are limited in your ability to dig into the ice on your edges, drive through on extension and balance your center of gravity over top of your blades in a fundamentally stronger position. Guys like Kaliyev with weaker ankle flexion tend to splay their legs which shifts their center of gravity back onto the heel of their outside leg. It limits a players ability to change direction or speed quickly which in most instances is more important than top speed. This can be improved, but it is one of those genetic things that you either have or don't have, and if you don't have it there is a ceiling as to how far you can improve. If you are interested Jack Han writes about this extensively in his newsletters.
Scion Verified Member Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 Yes, stars. McMichael is tracking to be a Rantanen level player Tomasinos comparable is Dylan Larkin I'm familiar, and I am a fan of both he and Mitch Brown's work. But I just don't agree with the McMichael assessment. I have nothing analytical to back that up either, I just don't see a star skill-set, though to be fair I didn't with Raantanen either.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 Bro wants the two highest waiver picks
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 Also whose turn is it? King, I think.

That's why I said the odds are good 1 of them will likely turn into a star (not all three). Tomasino's game might translate the most smoothly considering he's the best skater of the three.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 Just give me the best prospect pick from here on. I’m done

I think Tomasino ends the year in the top 6, you took him one round earlier than I had planned to, lol.
