Joe Blanton had some absolutely gnarly xFIP - ERA gaps between 2010 and 2013.

RIP Joe.

The pieces are falling in place slowly for us. Someone already mentioned Boston isn't as strong as the last few years, the Rays pitching staff is dropping like flies and at the same time our rotation is looking like a pleasant surprise.

Colby is starting to come around, now we just need Reyes back and Edwin to get going (just a matter of time). If we can avoid having too many major injuries I think we can be very competitive in this division.

Having Walktista circa 2010-11 kicking around won't hurt things either.

It's also NOT too late for AA to make some improvements either. The pitching actually looks solid (knock wood) but he could easily upgrade the bench or 2B in June if he wanted to. Some of these fringe starters like Happ and Rogers might be appealing to teams with positional depth but major pitching woes.

What possible upgrade at 2nd base could you get for 2 shitbags like Rogers or Happ?

I'm not asking for Robinson Cano here. I think a younger league average 2B or a 4th OF/DH platoon type could be had for pieces that won't be missed. That's all I'm saying.

I get it. But in Goins and Diaz, you have to elite defenders. Yeah it sucks when they have to play on the same day... But this team will take a defensive hit when Reyes comes back... I'd much rather go with the all d middle infielder then whatever return Rogers and Happ can get.

I love the defense, too. I just don't trust that Reyes is going to play more than 2/3 of the time at best. I'd prefer a more well rounded player be present to play with him or instead of him on and off. For a bit there, it looked like Izturis might be that, but he probably just had a hot flash. And now he's hurt too. AA has said he's after a younger player for 2B that will be around for awhile. Hopefully he's still keeping an eye out. But obviously the asking prices have been too high so far. With the complete failure of Goins with the bat (worse than anyone feared) there is more motivation. I like what I see in Diaz actually, but to me he's my utility IF for 2015 and onward, not my starting 2B.

We're easily making the playoffs this year. None of our pitchers shall miss so much as a single start to injury, and our entire lineup shall also be injury-free once Reyes returns. Playoffs? Easy to make. Nothing can stop us now, f*** you fate and baseball gods, we're untouchable.

Anyone know what the deal is in Seattle and their INF? I thought they had a logjam. What's up with Ackley and the other folks.

The time to get Ackley was the OF. He's hitting well and Seattle probably doesn't deal him despite the fact that he's WAY more valuable at 2B then in LF. Dumb Seattle, and dumb us for not going and getting him.

Ackley isn't going anywhere. Abraham Almonte is doing what everyone but Lloyd knew that he would do....Nothing!!!

From everything that came out to the media it looked like there were a handful of teams with offers for them but they were simply asking too much.

They are being converted into outfielders. We'll see how that works. They have room in the outfield since, um, Eric Thames didn't work out. LOL

We do lead the league in pitching WAR.

fWAR

Batting 1.9

Pitching 2.2

Jays: RLT 3.85 + 1.9 + 2.2 = ~8 Wins

Mike Trout already has a 1.3 WAR lead on Miggy. The year he finally gets his MVP?

He's the Bonds of this generation (Kent and Caminiti over Bonds lol).

Give Kent some love man. He was a second basemen. Its more impressive when a mif does what he did

I'm pretty convinced that Lloyd McClendon is the worst manager in baseball.

Do the M's do a Colby for Ackely+ deal?

Are we a better team with Ackely at 2b and Gose in CF?

Colby is so hot and cold that it would be tough to commit to him long term... he's just so damn fun to watch when he's swinging it.

I'd be pretty disappointed if we did that.

Depends on whether we plan to extend Colby too. And how much he wants.

I've always like Ackley (even when he struggled) and he's proven in the past that he can play a decent (even good) 2B. You also have some cost control with the guy where I see us losing Colby after this year for a pick.

Problem is of course that you move from a defense only 2B to essentially a defense only CF

I think I'd rather QO Rasmus then trade him for Ackley. I certainly wouldn't do it unless/until the team is out of the race. At that point, you can afford to cash in Rasmus for an inferior option on which you have more control but again I'd probably just qualify him. Ater the Drew/Morales debacle, there's at least an off chance Rasmus accepts especially if he's weary of possibly landing with another Tony Larusa style hard-ass.
