“I want to be here and I don’t want to be at home for a month,” Lind told sportsnet.ca. “I would prefer Alex to do it face to face and not over the phone. I’ve been in this franchise for 10 years. I think I deserve to be treated man to man, in a face-to-face conversation. Maybe it’s not to him, but to me it’s obviously a life-changer, so I would prefer to have it face to face.”

“I feel like I’ll have a job somewhere, so I’m not too worried about free agency,”

“I know my batting average against left-handed pitching may not be the best, but who does have a good average against David Price and Matt Moore and Jon Lester?” Lind asked. “That’s why they’re the best in the business. If I go to a different division, I won’t have to see those guys as much.”

No his numbers wont improve if he goes to another division. He'll be hitting in pitchers parks more..which would erase the smallest of difference the left handed pitchers would make. Its just another bluejay making excuses.

That's not really fair. He's done about what could have hoped for this year. Kills righties. (OPS >.900) Does poorly against tough lefties. That's Gibbons' job to manage that next year. We need a good right handed bat on the bench who can play OF, 1B or DH.

I really hate the f***er...but given all the other pressing needs (SP, C, 2B) that need to be filled in the organization, bringing Lind back at a reasonable salary is probably the best course of action. Idiotic hillbilly-like comments in the press aside; he has had a relatively decent year with the bat, and has managed to stay healthy, which given the Jays lack of depth is a huge plus.

I hope he's gone.

Not sure we can do better for the money.

I don't love him either but I suspect they pick up his option for 2014 anyway. Hopefully they find a decent RHB to platoon in LF and DH.

We lack C and SP, i don't have a problem with Lind staying.

Can they take him for another year and trade? He's on a very friendly contract and he's usually pretty good, specially if you platoon him. I don't see why would anyone not want him on their team.

Yes

And he has cheaper buyouts after 2014 and 2015

Exactly. We have so many other huge glaring holes... AA needs to focus on C/SP/2B

Lind definitely stays.

Ryan Goins is here to stay. The next Matt Carpenter

I have mixed feelings about Lind. He's worth the money in a vacuum but it would be nice to move Melky to dh instead of him. The Jays should definitely test the waters to see if they can get something decent in return (probably not since Morales is a free agent but it's worth a shot). In all likeliness, the best play will be to keep him and hope Melky is mobile next year. It makes me nervous but there won't be a successful 2014 without a bunch of finger crossing anyways.

Agree on all counts. Morneau available too and he is also essentially Adam Lind now. (Maybe handles LHP better don't know)

The problem is Lind and Edwin can both only play DH and 1B. Not much flexibility. Melky also may well be better suited for DH now, very anxious to see how he looks in spring training.

Better than Mark DeDosa

Better but very similar and with less defensive value not to mention the Jays already hold an option on Derosa. I don't really see it.

Easy to tell due to the games played showing :)

Morneau had a few killer years and yet his overall career numbers aren't that much better than Lind's

We don't need to replace Lind with 1B. Move Bautista to 1B and bring in Sin-Soo Choo for RF.

Oh HELL YEAH

Cap filler

Lind is beter option than Morneau

Yep. And some idiot will give Morneau 10 or 12 million a year anyway. I just hope it's not an idiot with last name Anthopoulos.

Damn you!!!

Now I really want this

Trade Lind, Pillar and either Santos or Janssen for a starting pitcher (making it Santos saves more $)

Sign Choo and Ruiz

Bautista to 1B

Rock and Roll

Would rather have Choo in left, Melky at DH and EE at first than have Cabrera man left with a plus OFer at 1B.

OK, that works too :)

Let's just get the players first...

BNS and Chisolm quotes on MLBTR. Bolded a part I hadn't heard before.

Adam Lind is hopeful that the Blue Jays will exercise his $7MM option "sooner rather than later" and hopes the conversation will be conducted face-to-face with GM Alex Anthopoulos, Lind tells Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. Lind is confident that even if his option is declined and he becomes a free agent, he will be able to find other employment. In that instance, he would hope to join a contending team, though he made it clear to Nicholson-Smith that his preference is to help bring a winning team to Toronto.

Lind's future with the team looks more certain than it did in July, writes MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm in his latest Blue Jays Inbox. Before the team discovered a tumor on Melky Cabrera's spine, they were planning to move Cabrera to DH in 2014. The tumor explains Cabrera's limited mobility and drastic decline, however, meaning Cabrera can still play in the outfield while Lind serves as the DH. Lind's option contains a $2MM buyout, so the Jays essentially have a $5MM decision on whether or not to retain him.

Chisholm also discusses Colby Rasmus' case for an extension but notes that Rasmus' 2013 season compares favorably to B.J. Upton's walk year prior to signing a five-year, $75.25MM contract with the Braves. As such, Anthopoulos is likely to make sure that Rasmus can repeat his breakout season before looking seriously at adding him to Toronto's core.
