G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2013 Author Posted July 28, 2013 Jake Peavy has cleared his belongings from the White Sox's clubhouse and is prepared to be traded soon, reports ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine. A clubhouse attendant, with Peavy it tow, walked out with five suitcases; but, there's no word on the exact timing of a possible deal or the destination. "It is sad to think that this is probably my last day in here," Peavy said this morning. "We all realize the reality of the situation and I am prepared with that to happen soon. If I am not traded I would be happy to know the message here is we think we can win it all next year with you a part of it. I am reflecting on my four years here as we speak and getting a little caught up in the emotion. It is a sad day when you think it could be your last. This is a business and this is what we do. I will always cherish the people here and my time in Chicago." The Orioles, Braves, A's, Red Sox and Cardinals have all been linked to the right-hander. Levine notes talks with the Braves have heated up since Tim Hudson's season-ending ankle injury.

Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Minor/Medlen/Teheran/Beachy/Maholm is pretty decent as is. I think Baltimore has the most to gain by trading for him.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 He'd be a HUGE addition to Baltimore. Being able to throw Peavy out there for a 1-game playoff is such a massive upgrade on in-house talent. Exactly. If he's traded to Baltimore, he immediately becomes their ace.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 I can't post it from my phone but according to Passan a trade may not, in fact, be imminent.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Good, trade talk heating up, let's hope AA stops eating for enough time to at least deal Oliver and Janssen.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 lol, I remember getting in a big debate with Kirksaw and others who were saying that Garza and Peavy would go for little more than salary relief and signing bonus space. Hell, Buehrle and his contract would probably fetch even a B prospect or two.

Well it's obvious the team told him he'd be traded. Locker cleaned out and everything. They are probably just weighing the best offers.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2013 Author Posted July 28, 2013 Dare I say, the fact that the Jays ARREN'T being listed as in on it, that perhaps maybe AA DOES land him??? I have to say I don't like the thought of Baltimore getting him at all

I have to say I don't like the thought of Baltimore getting him at all Dare I shudder at the package AA would have to give up to get him given the number of teams involved? Given that AA already tried to get him, he's like 30 something and has had injury issues, it's quite possible AA gets him.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 I hate to say it, but Peavy is probably the one pitcher available that AA would blow his remaining wad on. IF the Jays get him, Sanchez is gone for sure.
The_DH Verified Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 I don't want another chi sox pitcher.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Anyone who trades anything substantial for Peavy will regret it immediately. If it isn't a contract year for him, he'll barely get on the mound.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 I obviously wouldn't like Sanchez, but I would give up a decent amount for Peavy. He's very good.
BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Maybe a three team trade is being cooked up? AA has a good relationship with the Sox, hes made 2 trades with them.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 What's Peavy making next year? I would think JJ is gone if Peavy comes in unless they're increasing payroll substantially again. He's a good pitcher, but not sure I want another 30+ with an injury history like his.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 AA is especially stupid if he trades what's left of our farm for Peavy. We aren't making the playoffs, the team needs to be sold off, and bringing in Peavy changes nothing. Should be cause for Beeston and AA's immediate firing if it happens.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 They want more than the Garza return, and have a case to get it based on the fact that Peavy not only has an extra year of control but will provide a comp pick while Garza won't. What would an offer look like from us? The Cubs got Grimm, Olt, and Edwards. Say Nolin, Gose, and Cardona is the approximate equivalent? That probably doesn't get it done. Replace Cardona with, I dunno, Stilson, and I think they definitely bite. Even with Cardona, I think it's a good deal for both sides.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 $14.5 million. That would take payroll to about 150M without JJ. They'd be trading more youth to compensate for a failed attempt at upgrading the rotation. Like spinning your wheels, I know Peavy's good, but JJ was thought to be good as well. I'd rather throw money at Garza in the offseason.

Maybe AA gets involved in a 3-way like the Rasmus trade or something like that. Kolten Wong please.

Really, all the Cards' prospects are good lol. Damn Cards.
