"He went to Kansas City as a major-league coach and got fired, not right away but was eventually fired. So what he did was to go back and manage double-A baseball last year (San Antonio), rode the buses in the Texas League, and that really made a good impression on me. Anybody who did that I said: 'I'm taking to the all-star game. I have a soft spot for someone doing what he did." That's some high praise.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 It's a good reason. Gibby put the work in and rode the bus to get back to the Majors, he didn't just sit back like Robin Ventura (who is also going lol) and say "I'm Robin Ventura, I don't want to work my way up. Hire me." Also, Gibby seems to get along well with Leyland, they must talk a lot when the Jays play the Tigers. They both smoke together.

In other words "He failed twice, had no idea what to do with his life, took a huge demotion, magically got offered another job by an inept GM" AS worthy!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Is Gibby worthy? Uh. I'm just glad he didn't pick Farrell.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 95 percent of what a manager does, the fans have no idea about. It's pointless to blame a manager or give him credit for a teams success/failure, unless you manage a pen as terrible as Farrel did last year
