"What I do like about this move is that lets say Sierra/Negrych/anyone else plays well, what are we going to do when everyone's healthy? At least if Gose plays well we have an option"

I don't know where your coming from with this stuff? Gose is going to be in a role player. The team has even said as much. He's going back to the minors when Davis comes back. He won't get an opportunity to stick with the club (nor should he frankly).

Well you dont use your teams best positional prospect ( I dont think he actually qualifies as a prospect but im going to use the term regardless for arguments sake) as a role player, it doesnt make sense. Normally in an ``all in` season I wouldnt agree with this, but the team is so polarized in terms of talent level that we could DFA about 5 positional players on this team right now and id doubt most people on this board would miss them

I really wish Gibbons or anyone in management would grow a pair and sit Rasmus down and explain to him that Gose HAS to play CF if hes in the lineup because of how great he is out there. I thought baseball was supposed to be the game of no egos.

It required Granderson getting hurt and out for weeks in order for Girardi/Cashman to have the balls to do just that in New York with him and Gardner

Edit: Well, maybe that's a bit different because they were both every day major leaguers...

I don't even know if Colby will go year-to-year again, he'll get non-tendered if he can't turn it around.

It would make sense to trade him for another reclamation project.

David Dejesus got 2 years $10/M at the age of 30. Colby will be a FA at 28 and even at his current pace will be coming off of a similar season...he's still getting 2 years plus option offers IMO.

Sure you do it it's just to fill in a temporary need. The Rangers used Profar as a pinch runner last year. This is no big deal. Again, I don't understand why people keep reading something into this. He'll be here for a week or so, he'll get maybe one start and life will proceed as normal. If anything it will probably help Gose get out of his own head a bit and take a break from his struggle in Buffalo.

Playing well can happen in small sample sizes (and I've been away for 5 days without internet so I wasn't sure what anyone's role will be. However the statement still stays true, The F.O has to move towards transitioning to Gose as our CF without hurting the perception with the fans they need to buy tickets. Doing that would be him showing well (even in really small sample sizes) in the majors.

I didn't realize Colby only had one arb year left

He got $4.675M for this year on a one year deal with the club and avoided arbitrtation

Do they do a similar offer this year? Would he decline it? He might get a bit more in arbitration

Maybe going 2 years @ 5M per, plus an option makes sense for both sides. Cause no way they offer him much more than that, and no way they make him a qualifying offer next year so he might just take it. It would make him comfortable that he won't be non-tendered, won't break the bank, and keeps him tradeable too.

He'll have to play well without the benefit of plate appearances. He's mostly just going to fill in defensively for Melky.

Certainly possible

Dude thinks he should be in the bigs now. He said so much in spring training.

Yea it was absurd that they had a gold glove CF in Gardner playing in left field where there really isnt that much room for him to do his thing. Its almost literally the exact same scenario we have here in that Granderson and Rasmus are both capable but average defenders in CF and have star outfielders playing on the corners because they arent established vets

Il always disagree with that, but thats just my opinion I suppose. Maybe its a bit different for the rangers since they have all stars at 3rd, 2nd and SS and we have below replacement level players at multiple positions

The NY situation is a lot worse. The last two years: -16 DRS, -23.2 UZR

I presume Colby is quite a bit better than that?

Edit: Yep, too lazy to look up

Thats weird, i always though Granderson was a solid defender. Injuries must have really taken a toll on his legs

Colby's on pace for a over 2 WAR season. If he's a .240/.305/.425 line he's going to get an increase in Arbitration...most everyone does. I don't think it's in Colby's or the Jays best interest to extend by one year. Even if the Jays truly believe that Colby is still going to be this breakout star during his primetime years, it still makes sense to move him if the right deal comes along. Colby is hitting well below his career line against RHP right now, normalization of that and his K-rates should make him better and there are teams out there that will see that but the Jays have someone that can be as valuable in Gose, it's the one position where they can easily replace and not lose too much so why not make that move?

Yeah, I could go for moving Colby mid-season

There are teams who would want him

Euw, that's about all I can say about the Gose call-up.

The guys AAA numbers are atrocious. Gose' entire minor league career has been so steadily bad there's absolutely no reason this kid will ever be big league calibre... the love for this kid disgusts me.

Dave Cameron of Fangraphs did a study on the impact of moving your best CF to a corner. He found that the impact was less than you might think. Then again, it's Dave Cameron so I wouldn't consider anything he says conclusive.

It must be such an incredibel feeling to have someone like Trout or Harper jump up out of your system and just take off like they have. Would be so exciting.

We're stuck with a bust in Lawrie and a taller/more patient version of Juan Pierre.

And to think we could of had Trout!

Exactly , +1 and the sooner the better . I'm now looking at what can be done to set this team up for 2014 . and that is one move I make as soon as I get the best deal I think I can get .

Soon as Oliver has a good run then He is gone too . get JJ back from Injury and pitching well and gone . Replenish the minors a little .

The issue isn't that they think Colby is going to break out. The issue is that the team isn't ready to throw in the towel for 2013. You may not agree, you may think it's downright foolish but when you go all-in like the Jays just did this off-season, you don't give up the ghost this quickly no matter how bad things look. The inevitable downgrade from Rasmus to Gose is something the Jays will stave off until the trading deadline at the earliest. Until then, they will continue to hope for a miracle turnaround and sell that hope to the fans and to themselves.

I guess Oliver is coming back. We will once again have a 9-man bullpen. Gose needs the regular at-bats though... I think he came up and showed hes improving despite his disappointing numbers in Buffalo. Hopefully he go down there in rake. The on base percentage continues to be pretty good though.

Yes his swing seems to have fewer holes than it used to

We've all said it 100 times - he only has to be able to hit .250 and take walks to be an impactful player

according to bluebird banter McGowan still has 2 options. May as well wait until he's 100%. He can refuse the assignment but what are the chances he does that. Edited by TheHurl

McCowan? I like his K numbers, but not sure he's established good control yet...

Decisions need to be made asap

Are we still going to half-ass this thing and try to limp into the playoffs or are we going to re-tool and go for it again in 2014?

Gose looked awesome at the plate up here in limited appearances. Good eye and the other tools speak for themself. Davis and all the other fat needs to be trimmed relatively soon.

His 30 day rehab is up next week. So we will be seeing a decision one way or another really soon.

Gose should have stayed up
