Caper Verified Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Graveman with a great night. This team is set up very well next year for pitching.
Caper Verified Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Jorge Flores is going to be a fan favorite. Maybe as early as next year.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Small steps but 2013 IFA Bryan Lizardo has been hot of late. Hitting .378 with a 6/8 bb to k ration in last 10 games. Now up to .240/.356/.337 on the season.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Pillar should be in the majors shouldn't he... I still haven't given up completely on the prospects of going with Cabrera, Gose, Pillar and Bautista as our 2015 outfield That still might be pretty good for an OF compliment with a nice mix of bats, and could be adequate especially if we get a legit 2B upgrade at some point before next April
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Pillar should be in the majors shouldn't he... Will be in September for sure, probably does now
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Pillar should be in the majors shouldn't he... The Pillar situation is a mess. He's clearly not wanted on the team but because he's on the 40 man, he can't be traded without being exposed to waivers. He should have been traded before the deadline when a deal could have been worked out with any team not just whichever team claims him first.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Why have they soured on him? The bench sulk incident seemed out of character and isolated. Any other issues that have surfaced? Or is it likely internal hush hush issues? Cause a Gose Pillar CF platoon seems pretty reasonable to me if they're anchored by Cabrera and Bautista offensively.

Since he wasn't traded, you would hope that he and Gibbons would at least bury the hatchet in September.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Obviously a message being sent here but at this point there isn't room for Pillar in the majors. Lind and EE back and Reimold, Valencia/ Fransisco on the bench I wonder who goes down when EE returns. I suspect it will be Gose.
billjc33 Verified Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Pillar>Rasmus I'm so sick of watching rasmus swing through pitches and put up terrible at bat after at bat. Let him walk have a Gose/Pillar Platoon for the first half next year and then hopefully pompey can make his appearence.

While I agree Pillar/Gose platoon is the way to go next year there is no way Pillar is >Rasmus. Pillar has been terrible with the bat in the MLB so far.
Caper Verified Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Pillar can flat out hit. I think a Gose/Pillar platoon would be fine. It's amazing how he is mastering hitting in Buffalo. I really think that given a long enough leash he would be rewarded in Toronto.
43211234 Verified Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Pillar is a replacement player. There's no room for him on the roster now.
billjc33 Verified Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 But hitting .221/.286/.725 with a 33% K rate after 5 years in the majors is considered good?
immature Verified Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 He has had 142 AB at the major league level... Any opinion on Pillar is premature. But he undoubtedly deserves a second shot based on his numbers in the minors. BTW Bautista batted .206 in his first 150 AB in the majors.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 He is a solid smart player, something this team needs more of.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Pillar hasn't been victimized by the standard types of bad luck though. He has a .270 BABIP and doesn't have enough of a power reputation for us to regard his 6.7% HR/FB as aberrational. His O-Swing% is a whopping 42.7% and he's swung through 12.9% of pitches. 40 strikeouts and 4 walks in 151 PA. That's beyond dreadful. For a contact hitter he barely makes any contact and has zero control of the strike zone. Also, he'll be 26 in January. This isn't some 21-year-old who should be allowed time to get his feet wet. He should already be peaking as a Major Leaguer.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 A .270 BABIP is probably gonna go up, and .15 or .20 points of BABIP isn't something that should be ignored. Agree with the general point.
