Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Wow I only had one! Also looks like I am going to win this week because my pitching is amazing. Nelson and Pomeranz both had nice starts to the season, I'll be interested to follow them this year and see if I made a wise decision.

BTS Community Moderator Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Evan Gattis has struck out 10 times in 16 PA as an Astro and has not reached base.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Evan Gattis has struck out 10 times in 16 PA as an Astro and has not reached base. Everyone is throwing Gattis fastballs above the zone and he whiffs every time. It's clearly in the scouting report. In Carrasco's start, he threw Gattis a fastball a foot inside and up and Gattis swung through for his third strikeout.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Evan Gattis has struck out 10 times in 16 PA as an Astro and has not reached base. I'm more worried about Madison Bumgarner, he's got a 5.40 ERA.
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Wow I only had one! Also looks like I am going to win this week because my pitching is amazing. Your first win since beating KingKat in week 11 last year. Your second win since beating havok in week 8 in 2013. Your fourth win ever.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Your fourth win ever. God damn that's depressing.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Didn't he miss half of spring training? No. He'll probably continue striking out at 60% now that the book is out on him.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Evan Gattis has struck out 10 times in 16 PA as an Astro and has not reached base. and is still their third best hitter.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Holy f***, Chris Sale is sitting 96 and hitting 98 in the 6th inning, first game off the DL. How the f*** does that twig elbow not explode?

That's why you see so many forearm strains as precursors to a blown UCL. Either the torn UCL causes a muscle tear as a first symptom, or a muscle tear puts more of the stress load on the ligament and causes it so snap.

But do bigger muscles on the arm make strains less likely? Given some of the guys who have gone down with TJ, it doesn't seem like it.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 12, 2015 Author Posted April 12, 2015 But do bigger muscles on the arm make strains less likely? Given some of the guys who have gone down with TJ, it doesn't seem like it. I think that the strength of relevant muscles is probably important to some degree but I don't really think that size = relevant strength when it comes to those muscles. It's not like you need beefy forearms to support the elbow. To strengthen those muscles you'd be doing like, grip strength stuff and little bitty wrist curls. Sale could be a twig and still have 80 grade flexor muscles. But there really isn't any special reason why Chris Sale stays healthy, I think he just illustrates the general point that all of this s*** works in the range of probabilities and nothing is certain. Pack-a-day smoker can live until 90!
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 My team and their lack of counting stats have handed Dinger a solid win. I thought I'd hang on to sweep the offense. My horrible waiver draft, cut decisions haunt me in week 1 too.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Castro gets 2 ks and a save here and I'll salvage something from this matchup with Boxy.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Dammit I messed up in that post, it's pick 53 not 54, my mistake. one win penalty...sorry rules are rules.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Chris Hatcher is going to lose me all three ratios... f*** I find this deeply satisfying
