Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Yeah, the trade is largely Pompey for Souza IMO. Souza's ZiPS and Steamer are both pretty pedestrian now actually. I think his Steamer changed. AJ Cole is an unfortunately promoted prospect who had little value to me, marginal trade value, but could have a lot of value for a rebuilder like KK. Span ended up being very good last year but KK will need to find a flip partner. It's pretty hilarious that LOD draftsheets and circle jerks were predicated on early Steamer 600 projections for him. It's like every season, people forget that initial projections change substantially on unknowns like Souza before opening day.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Lest we forget North telling us about Burch Smith's 200 K projection circa February 2014.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 Lest we forget North telling us about Burch Smith's 200 K projection circa February 2014. Apparently the Rays are using slightly outdated Steamer information
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 Or they are using PECOTA: http://i.imgur.com/BqbjJsP.png
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 what's the logic behind providing a weighted mean of percentile chance outcomes?

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 So after the draft do all the players have to go through waivers before any more are picked up? Or do they go right to FA?
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 So after the draft do all the players have to go through waivers before any more are picked up? Or do they go right to FA? They'll all be put on waivers.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Apparently the Rays are using slightly outdated Steamer information The Rays think Wil Myers is an uncoachable idiot and an overrated hitter, that's what it comes down to.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 The Rays think Wil Myers is an uncoachable idiot and an overrated hitter, that's what it comes down to. That explains half of the trade. They still picked Souza as the big piece back for some reason or another.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I thought the big piece back was Burch?
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 I thought the big piece back was Burch? lol actually it's entirely possible that Tampa sees Rivera as the most valuable piece that they got
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I think they see Souza as above replacement level, not a star. They probably see Myers as on the precipice of a major value drop. He still has brand value, for now. Another awful season changes that significantly.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I'll be the guy who takes A-Rod, and will probably drop him before April.
TRM Verified Member Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I'll be the guy who takes A-Rod, and will probably drop him before April. Meh, I think I speak for most people who are hoping to compete this year when I say I definitely thought about A-Rod a little bit the last two rounds. Worth a shot at this point, I think.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I thought about it, but no contribution is worth rooting for him unless it's MVP level.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I'll be the guy who takes A-Rod, and will probably drop him before April. Sorry FeatherD, you woke up before me

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Oh you're one of those people. Yes, I don't like to own dislikable, non-superstar players. Sorry Papa Grande and K-Rod! I make exceptions for elite players, see: Puig. Although actually, I like Puig's flair. He hasn't done anything heinous yet that I'm aware of.

I'll never forgive him for that. As big of a douche A-Rod is, he's been one of my favourite players since I was like 10 years old. I can't shake wanting him to succeed in the face of everyone wanting him to fail.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 I can't shake wanting him to succeed in the face of everyone wanting him to fail. I kind of feel the same way. It would be nice if he could turn into a reliable veteran 1B/DH for few more years, thereby blocking Greg Bird's path to playing time.

Why can't we ever just agree on something without you being a childish ********?
TRM Verified Member Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Plus it would be a lot of fun if he gets his 109 HRs over the next four years and passed Bonds. The sports world would explode.
