BTS Community Moderator Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Wow so this is the reason I had no Gallardo offers... That and the fact that there were better starters available in the waiver draft.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 That and the fact that there were better starters available in the waiver draft. Disagree.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Disagree. I'm expecting him to implode. He has some of the worst stuff in the majors, and has been getting by because of Lucroy and Maldonado. I move do Texas without those two will be ugly I think. I'd prefer Buehrle and 1-2 other guys.

Buckles will probably have a sub-2 ERA and 23 wins this year. f*** that guy.

Last year he tried to switch to a predominantly 2-seamer throwing groundball pitcher. A 91mph sinker seems like a slightly better weapon than a 91mph straight ball. The positive way forward for Gallardo has that transition working out, and him maintaining most of his overall skill while turning into a guy with more grounders and less K's. Projections don't particularly like him (especially Steamer - 4.61 ERA in Arlington), but they might not really "see" the transition he made last year. As a locked in SP with some track record though, he's still probably better than replacement level. Many worse players were kept!

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 28, 2015 Author Posted February 28, 2015 The waiver draft looks just as flat this year as it turned out to be last year. No notable separation in my mind between guys like Fien and Hunter, and first round guys like Shaw, Soriano, and Broxton. Rajai Davis could also very easily outperform Danny Santana or Scott Van Slyke (and also Kang or Montero, sadly).
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Will we be able to trade 2016 waiver picks immediately following this draft? I forget how we did it last year.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Rajai Davis was the pick of the draft. Rajai Davis is a poor man's Ben Revere. He'll be platooning with lefty Rajai Davis this year.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 28, 2015 Author Posted February 28, 2015 Rajai Davis is a poor man's Ben Revere. Poor man's? Steamer600 (HR/SB/RBI/R): Rajai --> 9/43/70/56; .266/.310/.377 Revere --> 3/35/59/40; .283/.315/.346 Of course, Revere probably plays every day. But a fantasy owner in this league wouldn't be playing Revere every day...
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Lol at per 600, Rajai's only going to play against lefties. Superstar Gose is going to shine.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 28, 2015 Author Posted February 28, 2015 Superstar Gose is going to shine. For some weird reason, I think not.
TRM Verified Member Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 I bet Rajai easily has over 400 PA this year.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 I was actually going to take Rajai if Revere was gone. As I mentioned previously, Rajai is Top 5 in HR+SB over the last 3 years. Pretty impressive considering he doesn't hit many HR and never has a locked down starting job. SB are indeed rare these days.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 28, 2015 Author Posted February 28, 2015 If Billy Hamilton posts the same stat line as last year, who, hypothetically, would cut him before 2016? (assume you can't find a trade partner)
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 If Billy Hamilton posts the same stat line as last year, who, hypothetically, would cut him before 2016? (assume you can't find a trade partner) Assuming I can't get anything for him, I personally would cut him. It depends on how crowded your keepers list is though. The elite SB are great but he kills you in three categories, contibutes next to nothing in two, and is okay in one. Now he'll go on to post a .310/.345/.430 line in 2015, and my above comments will land in someone's sig.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Rajai Davis could also very easily outperform Danny Santana or Scott Van Slyke (and also Kang or Montero, sadly). I took Santana before I traded for Kang so the CF/SS eligibility was a selling feature for me. I wouldn't be surprised if Rajai outperformed him, but at least he's got some upside
