Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Just noticed we are now tied with the Angels in the WC standings. Yuk! Also Texas is putting the bats to O's pitching... I guess that's good

I guess that's good Only chance for Jays is if O's, Yanks and Rays stay around 10 games over .500. Of course this means the Jays have to be above .500 which won't happen until late July if not later.
flafson Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Looks like the Twins are breaking down, another win for the Rays is coming unless some miracle happens.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Phil Hughes only goes 4 innings... Hurt, or just the Yanks realizing that he's not all that good?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Yankees and Orioles losing - good Tampa winning - bad
digiblader Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Boston needs to start fearing Tampa as well--they lost 2/3 to the Angels, are facing a rising Mariners team, and face the A's this weekend.. and their sked gets tough after the All Star Break. Don't write Boston for a playoff spot yet--especially with Buchholz still hurt and their bullpen taking major hits due to closer issues, Miller and Morales' injury, and Mortensen's DFA.

digiblader Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Good news for the Jays--Indians/Tigers are going to extras.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Good news for the Jays--Indians/Tigers are going to extras. We need to go at least 4/6 in to the all star break. That would put them back at .500. I wish they could have gotten to 5 games over by then but no such luck. Every little advantage helps. We will probably get Lawrie and Melky back right after the break. That deepens the lineup substantially (I think Lawrie comes back hitting better). *IF* we can get some quality starts out of Dickey and Johson they can go on a good run. If they continue to pitch poorly it's going to be unbearable to watch them sink in the second half.
digiblader Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Well, we beat up Baltimore last time--and Cleveland hasn't exactly been a good team lately.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Well, we beat up Baltimore last time--and Cleveland hasn't exactly been a good team lately. I wish we actually beat them up. We just scraped by in the first 2 games, then on the last game we were facing Garcia who's been declining and not very good the last couple years.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I can sooo picture Kawasaki doing that somehow... If he keeps hanging out with Bonifacio he will
flafson Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Flying Japanese Bunt Fail http://cdn.cosbysweaters.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/uchimura-bunt-attempt.gif Oh man, you beat me to it. It's not really a bunt though, looks like they wanted to intentionally walk the batter and he wanted to try and put the ball in play so he tried to jump bunt it but missed.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 It kinda looks like there was a suicide squeeze on or something and the defense recognized that. So not the 3B or the batter saw that the catcher is standing so far from homeplate, out of catching position?
flafson Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Yea it was a suicide squeeze. That guy makes Bonifacio look like a star though, he's hitting .222 and had .168 last year, he's mostly 2B.
flafson Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I wish they would show the whole play, should be funny.
digiblader Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Boston loses 11-4 to Seattle.. Red Sox are in trouble. That bullpen is becoming a problem--and Tazawa/Uehara need help, as they are likely to break down due to overuse and a lack of a quality closer at the back end because of Hanrahan's injury, Bailey's breakdown(although he's pitched better in his last 2 outings). Boston's bullpen is near the bottom of the AL--they won't make or get very far in the playoffs if they don't get help. Look at some of their numbers and issues: Bailey 1.27 WHIP, 4.15 ERA Tazawa 1.15 WHIP, 3.00 ERA Breslow 1.25 WHIP, 3.21 ERA Miller(out for season--Lisfranc tear) Morales (hurt), Hanrahan(TJ Surgery) Mortensen (DFAd), Alex Wilson 1.74 WHIP, 4.88 ERA 14 blown saves, 55% conversion rate, 4.30 ERA. Don't forget what happened in 2011.. it could happen again unless Boston either trades for relief help or moves a minors arm(De La Rosa, Workman) to the bullpen. Andrew Miller had a 14.1 K/9IP rate--losing him could be devastating to the Red Sox pen. They don't have the luxury of lefties the Jays have.
digiblader Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Jeff Francouer has signed with the Giants...LOL. Why? That team's 6.5 back and showing no signs of improvement(40-48).. and they don't have the same chances as the Jays in contending--especially with the three-headed monster of St. Louis/Cincy/Pittsburgh in the NL Central and wild card race, and don't rule out Washington!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Jeff Francouer has signed with the Giants...LOL. Why? I don't think he had a bunch of contending teams lining up to sign him.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I'm usually two days late to the news. Just seeing Harper told his manager "play me or trade me" this weekend when he was slated to be benched for his 0-18 stretch.. what a self-entitled bastard. They should ship this guy out immediately..somewhere FAR away.. idk, like Canada or something. They should take Gose and Boni and just be happy to rid themselves of that headache and drama:)

If they need some coercing, I would include DeRosa and make them understand what he could do for Anthony Rendon

Executive chairman Ron Fowler will assume his responsibilities on an interim basis until a replacement is hired. Garfinkel's job involved overseeing the club's non-baseball operations. Garfinkel followed Jeff Moorad from the Diamondbacks to the Padres in 2009. Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Indians Focused On Garza, Gallardo The Indians seek a top-of-the-rotation type of starting pitcher, writes Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, and the pursuit has led them to focus exclusively on the Cubs' Matt Garza and the Brewers' Yovani Gallardo. Heyman notes that no deal is close on either front. The Indians have decent rotation depth, so they're not interested in lesser starters. The Indians are on Gallardo's no-trade list, as first reported by Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish in June. He could approve a trade to Cleveland, but it would represent an additional hurdle for the Indians and Brewers. As Brewers GM Doug Melvin explained to Anthony Witrado of Sporting News in June, "That Yovani is not a free agent like guys like [Zack] Greinke or Anibal Sanchez last year, he has more value than just two months of a rental, so the package from another team has to be something that will wow me." Gallardo is under contract through 2014 with a club option for '15. Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reported earlier today that the Indians and Rangers "are known to have strong interest" in Garza. A Garza trade appears to be a question of "when," rather than "if." I imagine the Cubs' focus in Garza talks will be on pitching, and I would guess they'd bring up names like Danny Salazar, Carlos Carrasco (optioned to Triple-A today), and even Trevor Bauer. The Indians also seek bullpen help, notes Heyman, a need that the Cubs could accommodate jkkshk
