What happens if Mr Guerrero is like this next year, which is the likely scenario ? It’s too embarrassing . This ends up the worst contract in the history of sport. The dude was never even that good, brutally overrated and the jays duped themselves on this stupid contract. And id there is no rebound, then what ?

Are player contracts insured in case of injury ? If so the best thing to do is play him in LF until he blows out his knee leading to retirement. The insurance company would then pay out the worst contract in sports history. Regardless he needs to bat at the bottom of the lineup to send a message that his performance is unacceptable.

I just don’t understand the contract either. It was a business decision not a baseball one as Fatso has never lived up to the ‘generational talent’ hype that the contract suggests. Ownership was desperate to show the fanbase they can retain their homegrown talent. But at 500 M over 14 years ? If things don’t improve, he becomes an expensive clown, mascot figure ? I just don’t get what can be done. He’s below replacement level at 1st base.

What happens if Fatso 1st baseman is like this next year ? Do the Jays just swallow the contract and field a better player ?

You forgot Vladdy, worst contract in MLB history.
  7. Goldbug109
The Guerrero contract is like the worst in sports history and ends in 14 painful years. It literally handcuffs the team over that time.

If his complete uselessness continues into next year, would the Jays consider hiding him somewhere in the organization if trade options are impossible or just permanently IL him. Is there precedence for such a crippling contract ? The Chris Davis one in Baltimore comes to mind. I thoroughly believe that the front office was pushed into this by ownership. So we can’t blame Atkins for this mess.

He’s signed through 2040 and paid big bucks so why should he care. It’s 500 million guaranteed with no opt outs. The team shot themselves in the head with the Vladdy contract.

That’s not it. No excuses. He’s just pure garbage and the Jays are stuck now with the worst contract in sports history.

Vlad’s at bats are dreadful. He swings at pitches out of the zone and gets himself out. Maybe Schneider is sending a message in response to that.

I’d move Fatso in a heartbeat. But the contract probably has a no trade clause to every team. He’ll be unplayable at 30 which is three years away.

Can we salary dump the 1st baseman ?

Fatso also quoted himself the greatest hitter on the planet and defrauded the Jays front office 500 M. It’s the worst contract in sports history.
  17. Goldbug109
The Jays signed Vlad Jr to a 500 M contract (the dumbest contract in sport) so anything is possible.

Horowitz has better numbers than Vladdy for like 35 million less. It’s depressing.
