  1. good contract for both sides
  2. Yes I think the workload is not conistent throughout the year, specifically pitching in games during the warmer months and going 100% indoors in the winter. The better prospects will go down south to compete in the winter but then it's back fully indoors when they return. Guess that's where the term "cold weather prospect" comes from. There's probably other factors...training related...etc
  3. I forget which pitcher was doing it in the ws but he took the clock down to 1 second before starting his delivering - used it to his advantage even though the batter has to be set by the 8 second mark. I say just leave it for another season
  4. Yea agree but game times increased apparently Major League Baseball's competition committee is weighing a proposal that would reduce the pitch clock with runners on base from 20 seconds to 18 next season, aiming to reverse a late-season trend that saw the average time of game increase by seven minutes, sources told ESPN.
  5. Not surprising, knack and frasso might get a shot this season, Dodgers are filthy rich in prospects
  6. wtf The Jays offered well over $100M in the spring but the sides weren’t close. Chapman is probably shooting for $150M plus. https://nypost.com/2023/11/09/sports/dodgers-still-in-lead-in-shohei-ohtani-sweepstakes/?utm_source=reddit.com (if this was previously posted....I just saw it)
  7. Couple of prospects made some noise in the Fall Stars game https://www.mlb.com/stories/fall-stars-game-top-moments-2023
  8. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/don-mattingly-talks-hitting/ [edit] fixed link
  9. Cool, glad you enjoyed it, here's the Fangraphs piece https://blogs.fangraphs.com/don-mattingly-talks-hitting/ and the article from O'Leary https://clients.chrisoleary.com/hitting/model-swings/don-mattingly
  10. The first question that should be asked "what's your hitting philopshy?" since now he has the "authority"
  11. we seem to bring up players at the wrong time (just going off memory), Horwitz should have been promoted a while ago (based on his numbers and age - especailly his age), same with Schneider - at least for a good trial run. It's the only way to know if they are ready. Otherwise making decisions based on Septmeber numbers is risky.
  12. Horwitz is unproven at the mlb level
  13. lmao too much....what did he say when they asked him about Berrios being pulled so early? something like "I found out when you did". Who would say that
  14. No not necessarily "no good" but he is old school - "short to the ball", just do a google search, there's a recent article on Fantragphs (I beleive it's from 2021 - he tells you his philosphy). Also this from 2018 "Why Marlins Manager Don Mattingly Doesn't Buy Into "Launch Angle" | The Dan Patrick Show " There's also a piece on Chris O'Leary's site where he breaks down Mattingly's swing (not his philosphy), showing him trying to create big lunch angle. So maybe Mattingly just can't explain what he does naturally at the plate.
  15. Rare exchange between a reporter and a GM, Cashman (questioning the Yankees player development)
  16. this just seems like change for the sake of change ?
  17. The new rules were a non issue I would leave everything as is for another season - the disengagement limits were whatever - didn't really impact too many game outcomes if any at all
  18. Yes, he gave them a home town discount, he loves LA.
  19. He just needs to get more than the QO which he certainly will on a 2/3 year deal. He's the best 2b on the market so he's in a good spot
  20. well if they don't pick it up it doesn't matter what he does I'm just saying he wasn't coming back, for his part it's a signal he's confident he can get a multi year deal in a weak FA class
  21. Merrifield was declining anyway
  22. I was never on board with getting rid of Martinez but it's time, don't care about a "strategist" being reassigned (whatever that means)
