  1. Interesting article: http://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/1270923-3-teams-that-made-the-postseason-after-starting-1-7 Apparently 3 teams in MLB history have made the playoffs after starting 1-7: >1974 Pittsburgh Pirates >1995 Cincinnati Reds >2011 Tampa Bay Rays
  2. Really? In 2018?
  3. Fair enough. Pls note did say 'might'....
  4. I refer you to Jonn's/Morosi's stat of only 3 teams making playoffs since 1977 at 1-6....
  5. Hard to believe this might be the whole season right here.
  6. Not doubting your stat, but genuinely curious; how did you find that out?
  7. Pity. The impression I got when I spoke with the person I know was that this was a sort of 'not really an offer' offer that the Jays felt they had to make given that the offseason was almost over. It was pulled after 24 hours apparently and had so many clauses it was pretty much not worth the paper it was printed on. As you say EE may well have thus felt insulted and taken a much better offer from Cleveland as a result.
  8. Makes sense. As I say, that was the rumour that was passed on to me - EE took guaranteed money with Cleveland vs heavily clause laden contract with us. Maybe Ang can make inquiries?
  9. Not just any Dominican bud, someone who has spent time in his compound in the Dominican and who knows several players well. I can't say any more without giving too much away. Fair enough if you want to shoot me down.
  10. I can't give you a link unfortunately as I was told this by someone who knows EE and other Dominican players very well. I can't speak to it's absolute veracity as a result, but I'm just putting it out there. Maybe it would be better to say that EE's salary was heavily performance/appearance based? I don't know.
  11. The story I was told was that EE desperately wanted to sign here, but the only offer that was eventually put on the table late in the offseason was for similar money to Cleveland but with severely limiting medical clauses that would have slashed his salary in the event of a serious injury. Could have been just a story though.
  12. **WORTHLESS STAT ALERT** The Blue Jays have started 0-2 only 5 times previously in their history. Here is their regular season record afterwards: 2013: 0-2 (74-88) 2004: 0-2 (67-94) 2003: 0-2 (86-76) 1981: 0-2 (37-69) 1979: 0-2 (53-109)
  13. Liriano vs Tillman? Not sure I like how that lines up in a winner-takes-all game.
  14. I hear you, but us old timers remember 20 years of futility and I say enjoy it while you can.
  15. I don't like Ortiz as it's all about him and this season-long farewell tour has amply demonstrated that. However I recognize his achievements and acknowledge that Boston won the division fair and square. Having said that, FYSMC Red Sox.
  16. Yep. The American League, the National League and the American League East.
