  1. I'll be cheering. Over his years here, he outplayed his contract and helped to get us to the postseason twice. As a fan, what more can you ask for.
  2. Thanks for quoting the entire post...lol. skipping over it once was hard enough.
  3. http://www.espn.com/mlb/freeagents/_/position/of Not a ton of decent FA OF'er options left.
  4. Agree that there is more to come...hopefully at least. But saying that the offseason hasn't been a disappointment is wrong in my opinion. As it stands, we are worse off now then at the end of last season. We've decreased our 1b/dh and haven't solved or improved the other holes. So yes, so far the offseason has been a disappointment.
  5. EE's contract is nowhere near Pujols or Hamilton's contact. Using them as comparisons or the Jays current position is pointless.
  6. I again agree with you that bandwagon fans are easy to get back and that fans got over Price based on last year's winning team but to say that Shapiro, Rogers and the FO doesnt give a s*** about the bandwagon fans is idiotic. Without those fans, attendance, ratings, payroll and the image of Toronto baseball to other FA's goes down. Will Shapiro loose sleep over it, no. But I'm sure all aspects of the Jays management do give a s*** including Shapiro.
  7. I understand your point but it's the bandwagon fans who fill the stadium, buy merchandise and watch the games. Without them, Rogers can go back to the loosing money conversations and justify a decrease in spending. Not signing someone like EE hurts the team in more then just current on field performance.
  8. Per mlbtraderumors 6:13pm: In addition to the Indians and Blue Jays, the Rangers, Astros, and Athletics have all made offers to Encarnacion, according to ESPN.com’s Jim Bowden (who cites team sources for each organization). As noted below, there’s apparently at least one other organization that has dangled a proposal as well. Each of those five clubs have put multiple years on the table, per Bowden, who notes that some of the offers include opt-outs following the 2017 campaign. Two suitors, in particular, are said to be engaged in negotiations “at a rapid pace” with Encarnacion’s reps. It’s not known which of the five organizations are pushing hardest at present.
  9. How can you be glad they misread the market? It's a mistake plain and simple. Sign either Bautista or EE and you still loose the attached pick so that makes no sense at all. Guess it comes down to having EE at 20/yr or Bautista (say at 17/year for 2yrs plus an option) and Morales at 11/yr for 28 of the total payroll. I'd rather have EE filling the hole at 1b and tossing the 8 mil toward the pen or another OF'er.
  10. I made a baseball card room in our basement...talk about driving your wife crazy...
  11. Have tons of cards...started collecting as a kid and have just continued. My Mom used to take me to the local card shop all the time and as a result, I have a lot of good memories with my Mom from collecting cards. Hoping to have the joys of taking my own kids once they get a bit bigger.
  12. If what the media reports is somewhat accurate, then yes, they did misread the 1b/DH market. Not sure why the comment would be taken as absurd.
  13. Agreed. If they let him walk has to be more to his injury.
  14. I would love to have Castillo as our back up but can't see him settling for a role as a back up. Enough teams out there will have interest in him and be willing to give him a starting gig. As for Rubby, i'd be more then willing to ad him as a b/p arm and spot starter depending on his health. See if he'd buy into the recent success of failed starters being beasts out of the pen.
  15. or maybe he realized that the Jays are in for a long battle with mediocrity after this year and that he wasn't going to be able to run it the same way as in the past. AA left while he was perceived to be on top so that he isn't unemployed in 3 years.
  16. First time posting so be gentle... Both AA and Shapiro have made great moves and bad ones. Surprised no one has even mentioned Shapiro traded Archer, Phillips, and Coco Crisp for essentially junk. Yes, Shapiro has signed some great extensions but he also gave extensions to Sizemore, Westbrook and Haffner that tied up money that could have been used to resign Lee or Martinez instead of being forced to move them. I realize that the above extensions were bad based on injuries but they were still signings that hurt the team going forward. I'm fine with Shapiro going forward and without a doubt he's better then Beeston at this point, but when criticizing AA and Beeston it needs to be realized that they did do a lot right for this organization. Loosing AA and his work ethics hurts the organization. For all the great moves that some are saying about Shapiro, look at his record. He took over a good team in 2001 as the GM. From 2001 to 2015, 7 seasons of playing .500 or better ball and that was in the AL Central when that Division was awful. Welcome back to mediocrity...hopefully it's not another 22 years.
