    It's always better to have more depth than not enough, but yeah at least to start the season there isn't enough space for them all to be starters.

    This is kind of surprising to me. Apart from anything else, we have lots of fringe starters (most ahead of SRF) and the ones that don't make it can refresh the bullpen.

    True, but plenty didn't and the Athletic article after Fiers first blew the whistle gives examples of unnamed players being instrumental in both setting it up and appreciating its benefits. Beltran is especially lucky given that he's no longer a player and has been heavily implicated.

    Even crazier it's Alford as he made his debut before we traded for Hernandez.

    At least with Shaw's 3B experience there's a good chance Drury is sent to the minors as depth once he's shown no improvement. Because Drury has an option (and as you say Atkins likes him for some reason) I don't think we'll see him DFA until the end of the year now.

    The rules were changed - it's now a hard cap so the only way you can go over your allocation is by trading for extra money. Time to make a deal with the Orioles!

    IMO it’s worth it for Chicago (especially as he can play straight away now), and $50m isn’t franchise crippling if he’s a bust. Plus the new CBA may make the deal look even better if they manage to change the rules for pre free agency contracts.

    I’d be worried about a reoccurrence of his thigh issues, but even so he’d likely be a very good DH to replace Cruz (assuming Cruz retires at the end of his contract).

    Nope it's any part of the body, which is silly. Because VAR can freeze frame and show inches it needs to be changed.
