I agree with what you're trying to say. I think the Jays like other teams spend a lot of time on swing mechanics behind the scenes. Successful hitting teams really focus on "barrelling" up the ball. Houston was all over this before others and focused on barrel which has a byproduct of good launch angle and exit velo. Springer is a more sophisticated hitter and it shows. His time with the Astros made him the player he is today. The Jays promptly hired Dave Hudgens when he became available hoping to capitalize on his knowledge of barrelling up the ball (what happened?). So far in May we haven't been barrelling up much and it shows. I'm sure the Jays are all over this.
Barrell = Good launch angle = higher slugging %.....Homeruns will come.
