  1. The league isn’t dead haha, can someone email league to make sure everyone is in? Let’s set a draft date in a week and I’ll run the lottery by Friday evening. If for some reason someone misses the draft we will start assigning them BPA according to NHL.com for the 2021 draft.
  2. We need to fill any vacancies then run the draft IMO. I’ve been slow at stuff as I’ve been putting ice in and have a 3 month old at home, but I’ll run a draft lottery once we are good to go.

Kotkaniemi offer sheeted by the Canes. If the Habs don’t match they’ll get a 1st and a 3rd.
  4. Anyone want Yuli Gurriel for a pick?
  5. Berrios is a great get for the team. Could spark some momentum on the big league club as they didn’t subtract from there. I still think the Jays could’ve received more value in return, but as things stand, they have improved the team.
  6. Surely Berrios can’t be the only one coming back at that price?

  10. Is anyone planning on leaving the league? Once we have that figured out I can run a draft lottery.

Why wouldn’t the Sens just trade down and use the extra picks for even more reaches?
  12. Second proposal: McGrath: I really thought I could entice you with Groshans, a good ol’ Texas boy, who’s having a fine season in Double A, with a .794 OPS before Tuesday, playing shortstop and third base. I understand why you’re asking about Martinez, but where it gets complicated is he may be on his way to becoming their best overall prospect — he went on a tear last week, hitting .500/.563/1.357 with seven home runs — and making himself untouchable. There’s another impasse with the arms you’re requesting. The Blue Jays need more pitching, not less, and Manoah is a key part of their rotation this year. He’s not going anywhere. If we’re going to talk about moving a pitcher of Woods Richardson’s calibre, I think we need to involve Gibson in the deal. But what if instead of Woods Richardson or Manoah, we involve the 6-foot-5 righty Adam Kloffenstein instead? And what about the offensively talented 22-year-old catcher Alejandro Kirk? Does that pique your interest? The Blue Jays have a surplus of catchers and could manage to move one. Newberg: Why are you so determined to break Groshans and Kloffenstein up, Kaitlyn? They were teammates in high school and who knows how long before that! Kloffenstein’s walk numbers, like Palmer’s, are concerning. Definitely a prospect, but two pennant races of Gibson, especially at his pay rate (a little over $4 million left this year and then $7 million for 2022), are going to cost you more.
  13. Here’s Kaitlyn’s initial proposal: Kaitlyn McGrath: The Blue Jays are in an interesting position, and there is potential for them to have a strong second half, and not just because they’re heading back to play in Toronto after nearly two years away. Their offence is among the best in the majors but the left-handed Gallo would make it even better, plus it wouldn’t hurt to upgrade their outfield defence, either. Pitching is a bigger need, particularly in the bullpen, where the team has faced injury challenges. They could use another closer type, where Kennedy factors in. As for starting pitching, the Blue Jays need depth. Gibson has some red flags since he looks due for regression and Globe Life Field is playing like a pitchers’ park, which the Rogers Centre is not. But, the Blue Jays have had an interest in the right-hander before. For Gallo and Kennedy, similarly, I’ll lay out options as DOB did, and we can go from there. Maybe if that doesn’t work, we can pivot to a Gibson deal. One of the MLB outfielders, Randal Grichuk, who can play all three spots, but mostly centre or right field, or Lourdes Gurriel Jr., who is a left fielder who can play first base. Jordan Groshans, a first-round pick in 2018, is listed as the team’s No. 6 prospect, per Keith Law, and is currently at the Double-A level. One of infielder Otto Lopez, a super-utility type in Double A, or Leo Jimenez, a second baseman/shortstop having a strong season in Low A. Trent Palmer, a 2020 third-round draft pick. He’s a 22-year-old right-hander who could project as a starter or reliever and is pitching in Low A this season. Do any of those names excite you? Newberg’s response: The problem with Grichuk is he’ll be 30 when next season begins and he’s locked up through 2023 at a little over $10 million a year for what’s been relatively average production. I’m not sure that helps Texas the next two seasons, given the state of the team. Even though pitcher Cole Winn and infielder Josh Jung have taken huge steps and first-round pick Jack Leiter should sign by Aug. 1, the Rangers are still at least two years away. Grichuk’s financial commitment — for a player they wouldn’t be building around — would create a new problem. Gurriel is the better option for Texas. With Groshans, the fit wouldn’t be obvious unless they’re convinced he can stick at shortstop. The pitcher-shortstop idea could keep the Rangers in a conversation, but for Gallo and Kennedy, they need more potential impact. I know better than to ask for Nate Pearson, but I still have the audacity to check in on Alek Manoah before turning to Simeon Woods Richardson. I won’t bring up Austin Martin, either, but rather than Groshans, can we talk about Orelvis Martinez (also a shortstop who has seen time at third base)? Martinez is two years younger and that’s a plus for where the Rangers are. Palmer is walking more than a batter an inning and that probably wards the Rangers off. So think about Gurriel, Manoah (or Woods Richardson) and Martinez. If that package is on the table, we can flesh things out further.
  14. The Athletic had a round table sort of chat with the writers for the Rangers, Braves and Jays about trading for Gallo. This is the packages the Rangers writer suggested to the Jays. Kaitlyn, as for the Blue Jays, I have three proposals for you: Gallo, Kyle Gibson and Kennedy for Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Simeon Woods Richardson, Orelvis Martinez and Alejandro Kirk. Gibson, Kennedy and Triple-A infielder Charles Leblanc (a Quebec native) for Woods Richardson and either Gurriel or Martinez. Gibson and Leblanc for Woods Richardson and Kirk.

Weber on LTIR and if Price’s contract comes off the books the Habs could be in a position to make some good moves, but I don’t see them as a playoff team right now.

  20. From Jim Bowden’s Must Watch Prospects for the Minor League season from The Athletic: Austin Martin, INF/OF, Toronto Blue Jays Age: 22 B: R T: R Height: 6-0 Weight: 183 TOOLS: HIT: 65 PWR: 50 RUN: 55 ARM: 55 FLD: 55 The Blue Jays, with the No. 5 pick in 2020, somehow ended up with the second-best player in the draft in Austin Martin. The Vanderbilt product had the best hit tool of any player in that draft, and by a large margin. Versatility is the best part of his game; he can play second base, shortstop, third base, center field and left field. This gives the Blue Jays a lot of flexibility. But his best fit is at second base, and I won’t be surprised if Martin takes over the big-league job as early as 2022 Opening Day, if Marcus Semien departs in free agency after this season. Martin has tremendous bat speed, athleticism and plate discipline, along with off-the-charts pitch recognition. He has a high baseball IQ and special instincts. He is a flat-out winner, with the swag to match his future teammates such as Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
