  1. Leblebijian has appeared in the outfield exactly once in almost 500 minor league games. He is not an OF option.
  2. Pompey leading off for Dunedin tonight....
  3. Interestingly, the West Michigan player in the video (No. 21) is Toronto native Daniel Pinero. He was on Canada's WBC team this spring and got into the final game versus the U.S.
  4. Bibens-Dirkx is a great story of perseverance. Among his baseball travels is Victoria, B.C., where he started eight games for the Victoria Seals of the old Golden Baseball League back in the summer of 2009.
  5. A relief to know it's not just my TV. I was wondering: mist? Fog? Smoke?
  6. In my view, the bunt call was iffy, not because of who was up but because of who was to follow (Barney and Carrera). But that being said, Travis's inability to put the bunt down was bush league stuff. Strike two was a fastball down the middle, and he couldn't even put the bat on it? Not good enough. It's on Travis, not Gibbons (and believe me, I have no trouble criticizing Gibbons at any time).
  7. Bringing in Osuna made no sense, which is undoubtedly why Gibbons did it.
  8. I heard the DL got a new chef and the pre- and post-game spreads have really improved. I suspect that's why so many players are now clamouring for admission.
  9. Had to laugh at reading that RA Dickey has more RBIs this season than Travis....
  10. Anthony Alford has fallen off a cliff. Four for his last 40 with 13 Ks, two walks, no steals.... Yikes.

  12. Hey, speaking of the Phils, a home-town boy, Victoria's Nick Pivetta, makes his major league debut this afternoon, pitching against the Dodgers. Good luck to the young guy.
  13. How do you know you've got the worst record in Major League Baseball? When you're excited by replacing your backup catcher.

  17. So, the folks who'd want us to only win 50 would be happy to lose a game like this? Get a grip. We're baseball fans. Do what it takes to win. Be happy.

  24. f*** it. I'm setting aside analytics and the whole who-is-to-blame thing, and just going with sentiment here -- baseball, after all, has always been a game with a fair share of sentiment. For me, I'm truly going to miss Edwin Encarnacion. I enjoyed watching him develop as a hitter. I liked seeing him sitting with his Latino cohorts in the dugout laughing and enjoying the game. I got a kick out of fans with their stuffed parrots calling on Edwin to walk his. I fondly recall his hat-trick. I'm glad Edwin's Blue Jays had success in the last two years, and while Toronto may yet be a playoff contender in 2017, they'll be a less interesting team for me to follow without Eddie.
