  1. I’m a lifelong baseball fan, but those type of replays, whether they go against the Jays or for the Jays, make me enjoy MLB a lot less.
  2. Don’t mean to pick on the young guy, who’s obviously struggling at the plate big time, but North York’s Gareth Morgan, the 74th player picked in the 2014 draft, is wracking up epic strikeout numbers with Seattle’s Modesto farm team in the California League. He’s fanned at least once in all 42 games he’s appeared in this year — and, last night, hit the 100 mark for the season, in the last week of May. Yikes.
  3. How bad are things? I’m looking forward to the return of Randal Grichuk.
  4. I thought, perhaps even expected, Walker to do better. I don’t know why, though — no one would ever go broke underestimating the intelligence of Hall of Fame voters. Sheep, many of them, susceptible to whatever shiny campaign or narrative is offered up.
  5. I got 86. But in my own defence, it took me five full minutes to realize that pitchers were included, and I spent a lot of time then trying to recall great pitchers from the early 20th century. How could Christy Mathewson not have been a WAR winner?
  6. How could you not know that John Franco was a lefty?
  7. And, also, a number of guys putting up the big numbers in 2006 were fricken DHs, like Ortiz, Thomas and Hafner. I'm not voting a DH for MVP. Really, the guy who had the biggest gripe was probably Jeter, and there's little reason to feel sorry for him as, for a career, he got his butt kissed more than anyone.
  8. Interesting to see that Deck McGuire made his MLB debut last night for the Reds after a pretty solid season in Double A ball at Pensacola in the Southern League. Not a bad line: 1.2 IP, 1 hit, 1 K, no runs, 6 batters faced.
  9. B.C. native Brayden Bouchey was pretty much fantastic in his last eight appearances for Northwest League champs Vancouver, including three in the playoffs: 12.1 innings, NO hits, 1 walk, 16 Ks. In the championship series against Eugene, 5 innings, no walks or hits, 7 Ks.
  10. LOL. "Major League" umpires. Just god awful.
  11. Dunno who I like in a Morales v Colon foot "race."
  12. Borucki pitched tonight, so that's not going to happen, unfortunately.
  13. Although I would note he's only a month older than Pentecost....
  14. Had guests over so didn't watch the game, but how the hell did Jays pitchers manage to walk Gurriel twice? Were they drunk??
  15. Speaking of hot, you should check out Joe Siddall's son, Brett, at milb.com. He has been on fire for quite a while in the High A league at Stockton, in the Oakland organization. We're talking 21 for 39 in his last 10 games, with 14 ribs. Brett Siddall's now leading the league in OPS and slugging, and is third in average at .320.
  16. Jays have been pissing down our backs and telling us it's raining since the season began.
  17. I say this. Stroman (or Stroganoff, as the autocorrect would have it) is such an athlete that if Smoak fields it cleanly, Stro takes it in stride, finds the bag easily, and the out is made. However, because Smoak double-clutched, it threw Stro off, he had to pause, then couldn't find the bag. In my view, Smoak's error, and I'm sure Smoak would agree. The official scorer didn't, however.
  18. Fun Tulo fact. Blue Jays have 42 wins on the season. Tulo has RBIs in exactly 3 of those victories.
  19. I appreciate no one cares about team won-loss records in the minors, but it really is something when your top minor league team -- in this case, the Buffalo Bisons -- have won just 7 of their last 40 games. You have to wonder what baseball people in Buffalo are thinking when it comes to Toronto just about now.
  20. Thanks for providing a reason not to read any of your further posts. Appreciate it.
  21. We are so close to being average that I can taste it.
  22. I actually laughed out loud on that swing (although possibly it's all these beers).
  23. Geez, I go downstairs to get another beer, I come back up, and it's tied. WTF. Can't leave these guys alone for a moment.
  24. You can't help but wonder why, in an information age, this isn't more readily available. I mean, Pompey makes a shoestring catch, ends up being pulled from the game, and days later you're still wondering about the seriousness of his injury and how long he'll be out. Geez, if only Trump knew the story, he could tweet non-stop about it.
  25. Really look forward to Martin getting a hit sometime this month....
