AB to the Pats is the least surprising thing in years.
  3. That's pretty much it in a nutshell. I never said that the Jays were the only team that weren't going to land big name stars. But that's the point isn't it. You have your usual suspects that aren't afraid to go 8+ years and $150+M on players, and the rest...not so much. Could it theoretically happen? Sure it could. But I'm going to go with the math. It's highly unlikely.

The RFA's seem to have all the power now. Teams need to grow balls, collude, and make these little f***ers sit out an entire season.
  5. Who have the Jays signed since 1977 that's a prime time elite level player, in their prime...to a lengthy contract, for premium dollars? It's never happened. That's where the narrative stems from. The fact that there's no history showing that it's ever happened. You could argue Clemens...but he appeared to be on the decline when he was signed, and as soon as he had his resurgence he demanded to be moved. Now...I don't categorize Bumgarner as being in his prime...but I don't see him signing here anyway...I see him as someone going to a current championship contender. The Jays may have been in the running for someone like him if this was a 2015 type team, but no one of any significant impact is coming here right now.
  6. A. Why would he sign here? B. What would it take to convince him to sign here?
  7. Then why pick anyone....ever. What I'm saying is that once you get to the 20's, pretty much everyone is a crapshoot. I think that's a good place for a high risk high reward guy. I certainly wouldn't take him in the Top 10 though.
  8. Who? What is the cost?
  9. Espino was an amazing pick at 24 though. Worthy gamble.
  10. I believe Daniel Norris first hit 90 when he was 14.

AB's like Trump. Just comedy gold.
  12. Thank you for not using irregardless. So common...yet not a word.
  13. If they don't get extended this offseason they're gone. I don't see them staying if they start 2020 as lame ducks.
  14. And here... We.... Bo.
  15. Luciano will be in Dunedin next season.
  16. You must not be familiar with the Prospects thread. There's a scheduled circle jerk after each one of his starts.
  17. I don't think those "easy" cuts are going to be as easy as you think...with the exception of Travis and Boshers. I think they really like Font in that openers role and I don't know if they're as willing to let go of Taylor just months after acquiring him. But I could be completely wrong.
  18. Unless it's gout, like it was with Boomer Wells.
  19. The Sanchez lovers will continue to fellate him. They can't stop themselves.
  20. Slaying Goliath is always fun. David vs. David is boring.
  21. Yup. You get penalized for drafting and developing well. What's happening to the Leafs right now, with the salary squeeze, people love...but they love it because they hate the Leafs, not because they love the system. The system is brutal.
  22. About 15 years now. Every season teams are forced to shed salary, trading away good players, in order to fit under the salary cap. Chicago is the most noteworthy example, where they had to move several players after winning a Cup because they could no longer afford them. The Toronto Maple Leafs are struggling right now to sign their young players and fit them under the cap. They traded a player just this summer, and had to throw in a first round pick (as a deal sweetener), and basically got nothing in return aside from Carolina taking on the $6.25M salary. So much of the sport is about accounting now. I can't remember the last time there was a trade that was really just talent for talent. That rarely happens anymore...and it's unfortunate.
  23. It's not a good thing. The game is evolving and pitching to contact is not what teams are looking for. Especially teams without elite defense,
  24. He doesn't have swing and miss stuff. That's a problem over the course of a season. He also hasn't had swing and miss stuff in the minors so it's not like this is a new development. He has an exceptional GB rate, but that alone isn't going to get it done. I'm expecting that as the sample size grows we'll see how the league adjusts to him.
  25. If he's a mid-rotation starter for the Jays long term...god help us.
