  1. As I understand it he's primarily a 1B and 3B is more his secondary, the main reason he's been brought up seems to me to pinch hit rather than as a legit depth 3B guy (which can be proven by Pennington taking over 3B late in those blowouts, not Hague), but point taken, he's one option (but likely more of a last resort).
  2. As I figured, a vague presser, nothing definite, only speculative and hopeful.
  3. As far as having to deal with a major injury during the season, we've been a bit more lucky than previous years. Saunders and maybe Travis to a degree are the only major ones that I can think of. There has been a lot of frustrating minor yet lingering injuries though, like Reyes' ribs, Bats' shoulder issues, EE's finger, Buehrle's dead arm, Martin's legs, etc...
  4. Reminds me of the Dave Parker move in 1991, an insurance for the stretch drive even if not available for playoffs. We also can't forget the fact that Pennington is also supposed to be our backup at third in case god forbid JD can't play for whatever reason (Since they'd probably be uneasy using Bautista or EE at 3rd at this point in the yr, as they haven't seen time there all season), I'm sure that was also considered from the depth perspective.
  5. Well, I would like to think that our offence was always good enough, even before the Tulo trade was made and we started going on our huge run... if we see Revere as basically having equally replaced what Reyes was doing on offence when he was here (Revere's actually been better hitting wise than him, if anything) then our overall lineup isn't too different from earlier on in the year where we were still the best offence, while being more solid on Defence now (Where Goins/Pennington>>>Reyes at SS and Revere>Cola/Valencia at LF), so I'd probably have to take A over B here at this point as being more preferable.
  6. Ugh so no EE while going bottom 4 of Pillar/Goins/Pennington/Thole tm... not looking forward to that, but I guess we won the series already and can't really force the issue at this point. On the positive side at least Martin picked the right time to start contributing again. Same with Smoak to a degree, he seems to be turning it around slightly at the plate as of late. Hope those two keep it up because we really need them down the stretch now.
  7. I'm predicting a pretty vague press conference tomorrow actually, something down the lines of "We are going to let it rest for two weeks and take it from there, but Tulo will definitely try his hardest to come back in time for the playoffs"... no matter what the actual real diagnosis from within might be. If not only for his teammates to have hopes of him being able to come back later in time for the playoffs... it would be pretty devastating to announce it right there before the game that he'll be out for the rest of the year for certain. As an athlete he'll be able to play through pain to some degree and hopefully also heal from it quicker, so I still have some hopes that he'll be back in time for the playoffs... seems different from a Teixeira type of case here to me although I guess that's still within realms of possibility.
  8. Realistically I'm thinking few weeks minimum for Tulo, but with Edwin I'm optimistic as this doesn't seem necessarily any worse than the same hand issue from before, which indeed only took a few off days to resolve. Hope that we will be able to lock down the division a bit early so that we can give some valuable rest for our starters ahead of the ALDS.
  9. Assuming Tulo ends up playing through this injury, I wonder if it'll affect his offence more than his defence, since it's his left shoulder... It's his follow through side in hitting which would definitely affect his swing a lot I'd think... defensively, at least it's not his throwing shoulder so hopefully his throwing at least won't be too affected, although it may limit his range in how he stretches his glove side for ground balls/liners to his sides... Hopefully he'll be able to come back at a level where he could still contribute on both sides of the ball. His presence alone I think will still make a huge difference even if not at full 100%.
  10. Edwin may have to force the issue tm, we're already gonna be having Pillar/Goins/Pennington/Thole for tomorrow as bottom four... if anything EE has to be in there for his presence there alone... then the off day on Monday in which he gets a chance to rest it.
  11. Yeah, more and more I'm thinking this is the case. I can understand the bruise in the upper shoulder on that play but not the small crack. Time for Cortisone shots... we all know if cleared to do so Tulo would play through the pain as much as possible. The main issue will be what the consequences/risk of possibly aggravating it while doing so would be in long term.
  12. Hope that orthopedic guy's diagnosis on twitter is true.
  13. Praying for at least one miracle out of either Travis/Tulo to happen by the playoff time... I wonder which one looks more likely at this point.
  14. On the bright side in that case, maybe it will give Stroman more room for error pitching since he'll be fresh and the hitters won't be...
  15. Definitely wouldn't want to be wasting a roster spot for Thole come playoffs... Martin caught Dickey to good results in the second half so I have no issues with him catching Dickey, unless Martin himself does. Martin's been horrid with hitting the ball recently but at least he may still draw and occasional walk and may hit a homer and such.
  16. Right now I want Travis back if anything just so that Pennington gets pushed back in the depth chart... He's been so horrendous with the bat...
  17. If we end up playing, this could be deja vu of Jack Morris' 20th win game in 1992 when it rained like hell... I think that was in September also. Anyone remember that hilarious Alfredo Griffin intentional strikeout to get through the game to make it official? lol.
  18. One area I feel we would have the advantage in a double header situation is the depth of the good bullpen guys. We could split to Cecil-Sanchez-Osuna and Hendriks-Lowe-Hawkins and I'd feel comfortable with both. And if Price is involved in one of those games, we can depend on him to go long anyway to save the pen (barring suspended play by rain delay). Yanks probably don't have this luxury... Would Girardi be daring enough to use Betances-Miller for both games of the double header I wonder..?
  19. The main thing I am worried about is if they try to force in the game today with Price starting and the play gets constantly suspended/called off, in worst case scenario before the 5th inning so that the game doesn't end up official... Definitely would!'t want to be wasting a Price start in a PPD game... If we end up playing in the rain this wkend I hope that we can come out of the gates firing right away with ppd after 5th inning being a possibility.
  20. When would the double header be, tm or one of the weekend days? I think Washington was the last time we had a double header and I believe we split that one... started the first 11 game winning streak IIRC? Definitely wouldn't mind a repeat of that!
  21. They are nice indeed. IMO though it's overworn as an alternate since they wear it for all the away games now, plus also the afternoon home games. It's pretty much become our "Main"... I've seen some teams go alternates happy but never to this kind of full time degree. I also have a soft spot for the grey aways as they're very similar to our grey away jersey from the WS years, plus I guess I'm more of a traditionalist type. I'm just baffled most at how they've just kind of informally discontinued using it altogether...
  22. Can we please bring the grey aways back now that we've finally lost a series even when wearing those supposedly lucky Alternate Blues?
  23. I'm not worried as long as our pitching keeps it close (at least there is no Hutch/Buehrle to worry about). It was the back end pen guys that allowed it to get blown open... I think hitting wise in many ways we were just unlucky in regards to GIDP's, those Green monster singles, etc. (although Tulo and Martin really needs to find their consistency very soon, those two I AM concerned about) And the Yanks didn't look too hot themselves with their own issues (injuries, overworked pen, etc), so I'm still pretty optimistic with our chances to end this coming series with at least a split.
  24. I hope we get him back at the dome the next series we face them. I dare him to work that slow in our yard, I bet he crumbles under the hostile atmosphere here, lol.
  25. Aaaaand Pennington still can't buy a hit and the game is finally over. Thank god.
