  1. Why bother with stats at all? Let's not use any stats anymore, because there's always variables at play outside the players control. I'm sorry but while this point is so captain obviously true, it's also relatively negligible. It's not enough to make a significant difference over a large SS... the data is still completely justifiable.
  2. ^Holy f***, the dumb! While these are valid points on a small scale you're also being an over-analytical prick. There's no need for this. All of your points are negated over a large enough SS. It's like looking a guys batting average over 5 years and asking "was the opposing defense good" - it's relatively stupid.
  3. Martin has been so good at throwing out runners this year (50%). I wanted to look at the best in the game over the last 5 years... in this time Martin ranks 8th (still really good), though he also has thrown out the most runners because of pure playing time. But look who's ahead of him in 6th, f***ing Yan Gomes! More interesting in 2nd is Rene f***ing Rivera... from a defensive standpoint between his arm and his framing (he's the best framer - http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/4504-Catcher-framing-redux) he's without question the best defensive catcher in the game. Most of the rest of the top guys are not very surprising. Also: Navarro - 39th Thole - 45th By the way, league average during this time is 27.3% Last 5 years, top CS% (1500 innings) # Name CS% 1 Yadier Molina 41.70% 2 Rene Rivera 38.13% 3 Ryan Hanigan 37.62% 4 Matt Wieters 35.69% 5 Miguel Montero 35.22% 6 Yan Gomes 34.84% 7 A.J. 4. ITT: Apparently a pitcher with a good stuff can't generate more weak contact than a pitcher with a crappy stuff because "it isn't a skill that conventional pitchers like Loup can have". ^Arguably the biggest derp in the history of this board.
  5. You realize the phrase 'correlation is not causation' is not actually an argument in itself unless you are backing it up with facts, right? I never mentioned ERA at any point. What I did was point out that good pitchers generate weak contact at a higher rate. How anyone can argue this is completely beyond me. And Dallas Keuchel is a good pitcher dispite his ERA. I'm actually flabbergasted by the stupidity on this board. Not just stupidity but the total willingness to accept a dumb statement by more popular posters.
  6. Reasonable. I'm not saying there is a clear solution to Reyes either, neverthless the guy is costing us games. There's no way his defensive/baserunning miscues are being fully captured in his WAR (which seems to be the only counter argument anyone has around here anymore).
  7. Not sure if you're purposely being dim here. There is a completely obvious correlation that good pitchers generate more weak contact. Even Keuchel's soft contact rates are correlating with his individual season performance.
  8. I think you're being a little optimistic, raped and shot (not necessarily in that order) is likely.
  9. The positions you mentioned are only suffering because of injuries. The point here is Reyes is an everyday player and he's single-handedly costing us ball games.
  10. Yeah okay buddy. If hating a player because he sucks makes me a troll then so be it.
  11. He really does, but you go ahead and consult your WAR on that and I'll go ahead and see the truth.
  12. What you mean to say is don't make negative posts towards your precious blue jays, your little girl stomach can't handle it.
  13. Is it really 3 for 5 when you get thrown out stretching? Ummm I guess technically. Also the hit that drove in two was both lucky and stupid. And yes, it is Reyes fault we lost... For all the reasons I already stated.
  14. Not sure if everyone has a short memory or are purposely being dim... Jose Reyes is a total cluster f***... every single game. Keep draping that curtain of ignorance over your eyes.
  15. Holy f***! Every game this guy finds ways to lose with his s***** defense, poor plate discipline and base running. How is it even possible to fail so much in a single game? This guy is magnetically drawn to losing. Today's game summary: - Flails away at bad 0-2 pitch (with the bases loaded!) and hits a lucky bloop single - Throwing error costs Jays runs - Almost throws another one in the dirt on next play - Gets caught trying to stretch a single into a double http://i.imgur.com/M4OSiq3.jpg This f*** has got to go.
  16. Reyes derp, he's like pillar now only pillar walks more
