  1. Twenty ticket pack might be an option. My main issue is, I'm down to see Jays nearly every day. But due to all my friends being Scottish or Irish guys or Canadian guys into only hockey.... I struggle to find people to go. My girlfriend will go to 1 game a year max!
  2. My knowledge is limited. Please bare with me. OK but isn't melky to saunders a step down in class? Or am I getting that wrong? I hear defensively Saunders offers more (correct me if I'm wrong). But don't you lose offense from Melky's bat? (correct me if I'm wrong) I'm lead to believe that saunders is a more dynamic player and is faster etc. But isn't melky a better batter? Is it the case that 1) It's a step down, but the money saved going Saunders over Melky is much better or 2) Saunders is genuinely a better player than Melky.
  3. Disappointed to hear that Jays are chipping in for Happ. In my limited knowledge I thought that part of the positive of this trade was freeing up money. What's the down-low with the cash? What actually was saved? Also does the idea that jays are paying for Happ change anyone's opinion on the deal or devalue it?
  4. I was considering picking up a season ticket or flex pass, but I'm not really sure there is value in it? I live in downtown Toronto and went to a ton of games last year (probably 30+) buying all of my tickets from stubhub. 500 level season ticket is clocking in around $800, 40 game flex $440. Bit concerned it would be cheaper just buying on stub hub. I'd obviously not make every game. Hasn't the season tickets hiked up substantially? Though they were cheaper last year? The ball park pass would of been awesome, but I'm aware they've stopped selling them and some guy on the forum was already looking for $800 odd for it. I'm thinking at the moment that waiting and cherry picking games (variety of cheap and top games) on stub hub would probably the best bet. Also means I don't need to pay up front. Is there any major benefits to getting a flex? Other than guaranteeing seats for top games (Note: Never had an issue when yankes and sox come to town).
  5. Yeah I am. Make sure you play him left wing and not as a striker. Should do ok on the counter.
  6. Due to the fact 99% of my friends in Toronto are either Scottish or Irish and refuse to watch baseball, I'm heading to the game tomorrow on my own as per usual. Anyone in the same boat? Give us a shout and maybe we can grab seats together. Would be good to watch it with a legit bluejays fan talking me through the game. Cheers
  7. Hey guys. I'm having problem with my outfield. My outfield is currently: Melky Cabrerra, Kole Calhoun and JD Martinez. On the Bench I've Starling Marte and Mark Trumbo. Bit Worried that this season is blown for Trumbo. Shane Victorino is currently available on waivers after coming back from injury. Should I drop Trumbo for him or wait for Trumbo to come good?
  8. I'm desperate for a Out Fielder for my bench. Currently have a few injuries. Would Anthony Gose be a worthwhile pick up for the short term?
  9. Yeah sorry, I'm conscious of making glaringly obvious question posts on a forum mainly used by guys who have in depth knowledge. Thanks for the explanation though. I'd actually be using Colby Rasmus off the Bench so he wouldn't be playing every day. I just need some depth in the OF as I currently only have Ben Revere on the bench who isn't playing every game and isn't really playing amazingly. Stole a few bases though! Currently have Melky, Victorino, Wil Myers outfield. Think Colby would be a good bench guy for me?
  10. I'll condense this to one post as it is effectively a "newb" question so I don't want to create too many threads asking fairly obvious questions. Colby Rasmus: I see he's out with a hopeful return for early June. Anyone got any more detail on a return? What is the general consensus on Colby Rasmus? How do you rate him as a player and how do you project his play this season? I'm considering picking him up in my fantasy league. I'm in need of outfielders and currently looking at dropping Jimmy Rollins for him. I've a personal attachment to Jimmy Rollins as I used to live in Philly and my only piece of baseball Merch I've ever bought is a Jimmy Rollins Baseball shirt. But in desperate need for some outfielders and I've already Jose Reyes and Hanley Ramirez ahead of Jimmy at SS. Hoping to buy so Jays gear soon. Third base: A lot has been made about moving Lawrie to 2nd to accommodate Francisco at 3rd. What makes a good 3rd baseman opposed to a 2nd baseman? I'm led to believe that Lawrie is a quality 3rd but not as productive at 2nd, why is this? Why is Francisco weaker and why can't Francisco play second? How do the roles and responsibilities differ between 2nd and 3rd?
  11. On a selfish level I'm actually enjoying the slight apathy towards the Jays. As I mentioned before I'm new to Canada and Toronto so going to a game is still a huge novelty. I work Adelaide and John and love the fact I can go online at 6.30pm and snag a stubhub ticket for a few dollars. By the time you go to a game and buy an overpriced beer and a dog, you've dropped a chunk of change. Without the cheap seats sold by guys who get season tickets and no show, I doubt I'd be able to go. Just bought myself my first Jays book. "Great expectations" basically the failures of the last season or so. Maybe after reading I'll not want to go to the games either ;-)
  12. Yeah hopefully Buehrle can keep it up. Especially as he's in my fantasy team
  13. LOL i knew that would be the response
  14. ha ha i've walked past there and know it's a strip club!!
  15. Hi all, as you are aware I'm fairly new to Toronto and the Jays. Just wondering where you'd recommend for watching the Jays play when they are away? I've been to Gretzky (bit over priced), Hoops, Tobys, Hurricanes, Shoeless Joes and Clintons for Hockey games. Might head out tonight a grab a few beers tonight and watch the game.
  16. Where did you go to Uni? Was it stirling you were at? Answer to the soccer question: You don't need to support a Premier League team in England. It's an overrated league anyway. There's no reason to support a poor team, but equally no reason to support the rich teams. Most people in Canada have some form of European heritage, best bet is to trace that back and look for the cities etc you may have a connection with. I've a friend who's a huge west ham fan that likes them because he's tons of friends in east London and has visited and been taken to games. I've also a friend who claims to support Chelsea due to having Torres. I asked him who he'll support when Mourinho gets rid of Torres and if he'd have supported Liverpool if the player had been loyal to his previous club? In my opinion the guy who follows West Ham has the right idea. You don't always need to support a team that wins. Plus the bubble is going to go bust on the overspending unethical teams who are ruining football in England. Financial fairplay rules will cripple them eventually. Anyway, my point is... although times might be a little tougher being a Jays Fan... I have at least some form of connection to the city of Toronto. The concept of just being a Red Sox or Yankees fan just does not appeal at all.
  17. Hope all is well with his family. Got a soft spot for Navarro.
  18. Believe it or not, there is a podcast by two Celtic fans in Glasgow that follow the Mets called Metsbhoys. My old man is into it, but never met anyone else.
  19. The vast majority of NFL teams have no chance of winning a championship. Also Chelsea and Man City never had a chance of winning a championship over ten years ago. Blackburn, Newcastle, Leeds Utd and Aston Villa are teams that did. So if they money runs out like Leeds Utd / Blackburn will the people jump ship? With any sport you are better picking a team you have some form of connection with rather than just supporting a team who have a chance of winning the title. I enjoy following the Raptors, shouldn't I just support the heat? Where would the legitimacy be in me celebrating Miami winning the NBA?
  20. Ha Ha, I'll tell him that! Thanks for the info
  21. I know you guys are saying it’s hard to be a fan etc, but I think the fact that Blue Jays are something of an underdog team was part of the appeal that drew me towards the team. Like I said, I was in Philly when they had a World Series team. I never felt the same attachment to the team… mainly because it felt like jumping on the bandwagon. I wasn’t there for the bad or even the average days, so following from a Championship onwards didn’t have the same authenticity. I meet a lot of soccer fans in Canada and when they hear my accent they always want to talk soccer as the sport is exploding here and in the USA. I’m always happy to talk soccer and all, but when I ask them what team they “support” I brace myself and cringe. Why? Because I know the answer will be: A) Chelsea Man City C) Arsenal D) Man Utd E) Spurs F) Liverpool Or sometimes Barca and Real Madrid. But mostly Premier League teams from England, so basically the top 6 richest teams in the richest league in the world that buy players as products to sell to football “consumers” not fans. I’m not saying there aren’t legit fans out there, but I fail to see the connection they have with a team half the world away. I’m also exceptionally sceptical when they tell me “I’ve always supported Chelsea / Man City, way before they had money”. I’m pretty sure this is of course isn’t true and they began following the side after rich billionaires turned the clubs into personal fantasy football teams. While the team I support in Scotland (Celtic) are very successful in their league, I started following them in 1991 when; the club was minutes away from bankruptcy, 5th in a 10 team league and a million miles away from their bitter rivals who were spending like the Yankees. So while things might not seem great for the Jays right now, I’m hoping it’s actually a good entry point for me. In fairness I’ve been to 5 games this year and they have won 3 of them. To follow up a few suggestions; Yeah I already have MLB TV. It is a great service and I watch what I can. I’ve seen moneyball and a few other films. Thank you very much for the list of books etc, I’ll defo be having a look into reading a few of those and checking out some sites. Regards certain pundits being bad or good. I’m at the stage of novice knowledge that I can’t really tell the difference. Most broadcasters in any sport speak in broad terms for the uneducated masses. I bang my head against the wall listening to soccer coverage, however in this respect I am defo one of the uneducated masses. So while the pundits might patronise guys on this forum, it probably serves as a point of entry for me. I’ve a friend in town Thursday who is a Yankees fan. He’s bought us both expensive seats that include a buffet which should be a blast. A one off though as it’s too expensive. All my other tickets I’ve bought a $5 seat for 500 level and I’ve just watched the 1st inning from the back and then sat behind home plate. Kind of a jerk move I know, but I’m always on my own and there’s always a ton of seats. Would defo be interested in watching a game with you all sometime so you can smarten me up a little and talk me through it.
  22. I had a glance at Jeff Blairs book but didn't buy it. What would be most useful is a baseball book charting recent years where the author doesn't assume he is recapping for someone that watched it all unfold.... as obviously I wasn't there. Not sure if I'll be able to find something like that. The books charting the early days of baseball or teams from the 70s etc don't serve as a great entry point as obviously I have little point of reference to attach myself to the narrative. What I really need is to learn more detail about the current Jays team and work my way backwards towards the world series wins.
  23. Glad I read this, took him out of my fantasy line up
  24. I'm from Linlithgow, so not far from you probably. You living in Toronto or do you follow from back home? Also thanks for the info herpderp. I'll defo check those out
